Re: Setting up midi Tracks

I'm at like the middle stage with ableton live. I have a basic understanding of how it works, but I don't know advanced routing. To me, advanced routing would be assigning numeric values to midi ports. My idea would be to have each midi track be assigned a specific number, that way any midi that co...

Re: Max for live VS max/msp

Just wanted to point out the obvious: Max standalone does not allow you to build devices that can be inserted into Ableton Live tracks and that talk to the Ableton Live API. It's not true that you need Max standalone for proper editing; the editor is the same in both the standalone and M4L versions...

Re: Max for live VS max/msp

Firstly, note that all of this is totally independent of Live - absolutely nothing needs to be chosen as the input or output on any Live track unless you wish to feed a midi input using the midiin object or midiout using the midiout object. Within the patch, you can mix the data from either source. ...

Re: Does it make sense to use digital effects on analog signal?

One piece of advice is that you should record and process your audio at 24 bit and as high a sample rate as you can. While you may not notice a massive difference when listening to the raw audio, it does make a massive difference when you start processing it. The difference is very audible (to my ea...

Re: the "ableton says....don't upgrade to lion yet!" post

apparently older versions of logic don't even work in lion...nuts Yeah, they don't. Even older version of Logic 9 don't work. I had just re-installed 9 from my installation disks and hadn't updated it. Got a message saying it was not compatible with Lion and it didn't work until I updated to 9.1.4....

Re: upgrade memory or CPU?

I agree with Khazul - whatever you do, make sure any new machine you get is NOT running Vista though!

Re: Lion Compatibility

When I try scrolling with two fingers, it scrolls the wrong way. Ive been using it over the past few months on and off and kept thinking there was something odd with the scrolling or it was just me - it never actually clicked that it had been swapped around - duh! I guess I was always too foc...

Re: Max for live VS max/msp

One thing that is not officially mentioned is the pathetic lack of midi functionality - i.e. not being able to send out multiple midi ports / channels from one patch. There are ways around this that involve third party externals, but I must say this was the most disappointing thing for me - very li...

Re: the "ableton says....don't upgrade to lion yet!" post

I posted earlier. Was swapping out drives and had to clone my HDD anyway so gave it a go for the laugh. No midi, but that appears to be the only major drawback. All else worked okay (including most plugins) from the limited tests I did. Ableton's message is really focussed at the fact that midi does...

Lion Compatibility

Hi All, As I was swapping out hard drives and needed to clone my HDD, I decided against my better judgement to see how Lion would react to various software, safe in the knowledge I could always go back. I use a variety of plugins, so here is what worked and what didn't: Logic worked fine once update...

Re: AU Plugins not active after live set is loaded

Thanks for the quick reply, though I think I have figured out what the issue is....or at least it is working now. I had a M4L patch running which spits out midi to several different samplers on different Live tracks. The audio from all samplers then go to the bus with the effects in question. I am u...

AU Plugins not active after live set is loaded

Hello, I am pretty new to Live and have an issue with AU plugins. I have noticed when I load a live set that my AU plugins are not active though according to the way I have saved the set, they should be. If I disable and re-enable the plugins, they work fine with the correct settings. All I could th...
