K Scale Calibration in Ableton
I'm trying to calibrate my studio in Ableton using the K Scale. I downloaded Bob Katz -20db pink noise file. When I load it into a track and play, it peaks on the master fader around -10/-11 db. To play a mastered file at about the same level, I have to turn it down to around -14db. My question is w...

I don't have Sampler...Do you think that's the problem?Tarekith wrote:Ah, that one must use an instrument you don't own. Sorry then, don't think there's a way to adjust that.

Re: Pitch Bending amount in Ableton Instrument Rack?
You could open up the rack and adjust this in whatever instrument is being hosted by the rack. It's the synth inside the rack that will have this setting, not the rack itself. How do you adjust it on this? I don't see anywhere to expand it http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x292/bigbonthabeat/Scree...

Pitch Bending amount in Ableton Instrument Rack?
I really like some of the Bass presets in Ableton's "Instrument Rack". I know how to properly pitch bend the basses, but is there a way to change the amount of semitones that are being affected? When I use any 3rd party plug in, I can pitch bend either 2 semitones, 3, 12, etc. But I don't ...

Re: How to check track delay caused by plugins?
I've noticed when I export my sub basses (no sidechain), that are usually about 5-10ms off grid....I'm not sure why

Re: Properly Sidechaining/Sub bass-Kick relationship:Dubstep/Dnb
Hey mate, that's likely to be your attack and release time. Might also be related to the amount of compression you got going on - looks like your smashing that sub-sound. The attack and release settings really depend on what you've got going into the side chain, your tempo and the vibe you're going...

Re: Chords & Vocals
That's a great question...I think this is kinda tricky. I would see exactly what chords the original song used. Then experiment with different chords from there. Also, you could import other songs in the same key to get ideas of different chords that work

Re: Properly Sidechaining/Sub bass-Kick relationship:Dubstep/Dnb
when I listen to the low end in the songs I create, they sound much weaker than music created by the pros. I think it also comes down to sample choice, but I'm having a hard time finding kicks in the 80-100hz range to fit with my sub bass that ranges that often range from 50hz-70hz (roughly G#-C#)....

Re: Properly Sidechaining/Sub bass-Kick relationship:Dubstep/Dnb
kind of difficult to say for sure without hearing. but at first glance, that is an incredibly intense sidechain. dial everything back, otherwise i'm sure it's going to sound totally weak. also consider whether you even really need a sidechain if your kick is hitting 30hz above your sub. what's the ...

Properly Sidechaining/Sub bass-Kick relationship:Dubstep/Dnb
Every time i heavily sidechain my kick to Sub bass (or any other elements in the mix), I feel like it throws off the rhythm. What length of sample do you use to trigger the sidechaining? What settings do you use? My Sidechain trigger length and Sidechain compression settings: http://i187.photobucket...

Re: Using Ableton Vocoder for Bass Sounds
The best I can suggest is to make sure your audio source for the vocoder really fills up the frequency spectrum first (assuming sub bass is already separate and filtered out of this part). Then divert the frequency bands in 2 or 3 different tracks. Process each separately and do your best to draw o...

Re: Sidechain pops: Does this eat up headroom in a mix?
Thanks for the replies everyone! The reason why i'm asking is that I've heard Live 8's compressors are better for avoiding clicks, but to be honest, I've always heard clicks when I sidechain. But I've never tried to clean it up because when all the other instruments are playing it can't be heard. B...

Using Ableton Vocoder for Bass Sounds
I saw a tutorial a while back where they used the Ableton Vocoder for bass sounds. They used an external sound on an audio track to trigger the vocoder and create a cool sound. When I do this, I can never get the sound to be "Crisp". Does anyone use this technique? Can you offer tips?

Re: Sidechain pops: Does this eat up headroom in a mix?
When a kick sidechains a bass and it pops because the attack/release ratio isn't ideal; Does this eat up headroom in a mix? The main reason for this is that you are, most likely, using the Compressor or Glue. Use another compressor without click issues. I replaced both with Native Instruments Solid...
