I don't really think the processor extra speed would do much in this case. Hard disk drives data transfer rates are mostly limited by rpm speed and plates storage capacity, as well as cache. Bigger sized plates allow for more info to be grabbed at one time. You can have the fastest CPU on earth, and...

I'd take to think the same. The other day I did a test, and I could launch close to 30 audio tracks at the same time without having hard disk overload. Needless to say, it was just a test, no plugins, or such, but you get the idea. Echo IndigoDJ at 512 samples, 5400rpm hard drive, Centrino 1.6Ghz, 7...

What is live's system file cache?

Yesterday while changing audio preferences in Live 5, I noticed that there's a setting called system file cache (not to be confused with decoding cache for mp3). It's under options->preferences->audio->settings. I looked for it in the manual, without luck. Does anyone know what is it and what it doe...

I hope his tour bus goes off a cliff. hopefully his studio stuff & backups will be in the bus too    This is one of the main reasons why i asked, i've seen several times people ranting about BT, but can't figure why. Maybe I'm missing something for not having heard his music...don't ...

What do you think about BT?

I don't really know anything about him or his music, aside from having read that he pioneered trance or something (one of those statements that sound a bit exaggerated...). Today I came across a review of "This Binary Universe" that made me become interested in listening to his music. 'This Binary U...

Whistling to make "big" music?

http://www.rageousmusic.com/?p=9 In the Mac OS X world, things have been busy at MyDreamApp, the brainchild of a few elite developers. In American Idol fashion, users were encouraged to submit their ideas for their favorite application ideas. 24 finalists were selected, with progressing rounds of e...

i use ableton on one computer and modul8 on another.... i have set it up so that the same midi sequences i use to make sound feed modul8 and trigger visuals. same thing with other parameters, opacity and volume, for example. lots of pre-planning and work, but i generally don't have to think much ab...

sounds very interesting. i've played with some of this type of stuff in vvvv using fft analysis, but ultimately found it wanting... i was pretty much only analysing tempo and dynamics though and having the image 'bounce' to the beat gets a bit tiresome after a while. it seems like you'll get someth...

Reactive visuals: what musical parameters to react to?

Hi guys, I'm researching regarding reactive visuals. My ultimate goal is to be able to perform music and have visuals that change according to the music, without the need of a human controlling them. I'm still early on the development of the idea, and one of the first things i'd like to come up with...

I don't think so, at least haven't ever heard of something like that. And, how in the world can Live know if you have some particular plugin set at low quality (say, a reverb) for saving CPU, or for creative reasons? Maybe you want that low-quality, metallic reverb sound for some special purpose... ...

Was it supposed to be cool, or something? Cos the loop seemed like one of my first attempts at doing anything in FL. Needless to say, my first attempts sucked big time. My later ones probably too

I tend to work as in the old analogue way, master fader at 0, all the channel faders where they should be to sound good, and no oranges or reds ever. I *think* I've read before that with floating point internal mixing you can indeed very much "overdrive" the master without getting ever at 0 digital ...
