Re: Djs music format used on gigs
Right, aiff and wav are the same data/sound-wise, but aiff has tags/meta-data like mp3s do. If you're on a budget and you're just looking to play the tracks out then 320kbps should be fine. I, personally, switched to aiff a while back for the tags and so that when I make recordings I have the best s...

Re: Drums go into Red Area
Okay, if you guys say so. But when I listen to normal music outta my library I have to put volume down every time, cause it's too loud. That's okay. You really shouldn't try to have the track as loud as already produced tracks while you're still making it. Overall volume isn't what's important then...

Re: Rick Snoman's: Dance Music Manual
Yeah, the beginning of that book is a bit technical but, as others have said, it's needed info. That being said, you may want to check out The Secrets of House Music Production (http://www.amazon.com/The-Secrets-House-Music-Production/dp/0956446000). It blends the technical stuff in with the how-to ...

Re: Tutorials - written or video?
I think it kind of depends. On the one hand, you couldn't fit any of Nick's Tutorials into a written format that would be short enough that anyone would bother to read it. On the other, I can't skip videos while I'm at work and it's annoying to constantly start/stop/scan videos while trying to work ...

Why would anyone sell a turntable that didn't rotate?

Map the control to a macro, set the min/max for the macro, draw your automation in the macro's automation lane.

Re: Tremolo.
Just about every instrument in Live has a built-in LFO that can be applied to the amplitude of the instrument to create tremelo effects. If not, learn to use the autopan correctly as there's no reason something as simple as left & right channel amplitude LFOs should sound like a disaster.

Re: anyone have this problem?
It sounds to me like you may have some kind of free-form modulation happening somewhere, i.e it's not re-triggering on new notes. This is probably even more likely if you're working from presets rather than init patches.

Re: dont give out your music for free
I, honestly, am not looking to be paid to play music. In fact, quite the opposite, I would prefer to be paid for something else in an amount that affords me enough to play my music however I want. On my optimistic days I like to think I'm keeping it pure, on the other days I don't give a shit.

Re: New album completely produced in Ableton Suite 8
Nice stuff. I'd definitely put it in a chill out category, even as far as Aphex Twin era Selected Ambient Works style ambient. The video reminded my of playing in and near a lake that my grandfather had a house on when I was kid. Music and accompanying material evoking memories is a good thing... ;)...

Re: Clipping
To further clarify on what Da Hand said, the sound will only clip from Live if the Master channel hits red. It's somewhat okay to hit red on the other channel meters as far as clipping goes but best practices dictate not doing that. If you wanna say fuck it and use the red on the channel meters for ...
