Re: Compressor with presets

A mistake a lot of people make compressing kick *and also snare to a degree* is setting ultra fast attack times and taking the threshold too low (so it's effectively limiting if you're using a high ratio) - this can work in some situations and mostly rnb and hip hop producers go for that sound, but ...

Re: question: charge for doing some video editing and stuff ...

Good point Paddy and I agree - although I've heard recordings done in big studios which still sounded bad and seen videos where people spent 10k and which I could have filmed with a cellphone camera and edited on Sony Vegas Movie Studio (the cut down, consumer $80 version of Vegas) and done a better...

Re: Live not supported as Major DAW.. Why?! Audient etc

Well not everyone has experience or knowledge of these features, so what's wrong with pointing them out. As for Cubase, they've had lane/take recording and comping since SX2 which came out in 2003. Logic (v8) and PT are more recent in their implementations. Of course diversity and differences are gr...

Re: Good multi-effects guitar stomp box?

http://www.voxamps.com/pedals/tonelable/ expensive but kills POD, Boss, Digitech, Zoom, etc for tone, has a real valve. You might find it on sale as it's discontinued and rumours about a new replacement abound (maybe NAMM announcement in Jan). I own a Zoom G2 and while it's good for it's money, it's...

or similarly in Cubase http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NY7FiGQbNUk or Protools http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVeggVbmpvQ Note - these all employ some form of LANE cycle recording (takes go onto different lanes, a.k.a. playlists in PT) and then the option to pick and choose via the lanes the best par...

Re: Do you use another daw with Ableton live?

Same. At home, Cubase 5 and Live 7. I occasionally use Reaper, mostly if I am taking the laptop on a field trip to record someone where I don't want to break or lose the Cubase dongle.

Although I am proficient in Logic and Protools too, given I worked with them daily for almost 9 years.

Re: Compressor with presets

There are compressors with presets, but they act as a guideline only and you will probably have to do subtle or major adjustments still for best results. The Sonalksis SV315mkII being one, but it's presets are set to things like 'crunch' or 'mastering - soft' etc. The T-racks classic compressor also...

Re: question: charge for doing some video editing and stuff ...

People once viewed audio engineers and producers like this - in a time when people actually had to record in a studio to get a pro sound and pay accordingly and at a time when people still BOUGHT music to fund this industry. Seems like an age ago now ... Either the good old days, or the bad old days...
