Re: First attempt, please give me pointers

I do have a limiter on the master. I don't know if that's common practice or not. I also read and watched a few tutorials on compression and took it easy with the settings. It sounds a lot better now in my opinion and you can hear the piano coming in. I'll post a full version when it's done. I thin...

Cool! Thanks for listening. When mixing a track, I have to listen to it so much that I eventually stop hearing it, and it becomes difficult to assess it objectively. Fresh ears really help!

Re: First attempt, please give me pointers

I'm pretty sure I added reverb to most tracks, and hesitated last minute to add any noticeable reverb to piano for that reason. Is there a way to avoid making the mix sound muddy with so much reverb? Can compression on the master channel fix that? I did not notice any problems with too much reverb....

Re: First attempt, please give me pointers

Thanks a ton Ninja.:D Do you mean the main part (one that fades in) or the one that has beat repeat? Or the bass? (that's the only synth) Yea the end kind of falls apart, I'll definitely clean it up. Thanks! Actually, all of the instruments that are playing until the piano or guitar or whatever tha...

Then you succeeded! It reminded me of Testament or Slayer or something like that. All it needs is some really loud, guttural, screaming vocal track about being eviscerated by the minions of Satan!

Re: First attempt, please give me pointers

I think that the synth is too loud and too compressed. It drowns out the piano. Actually, I couldn't even tell that it was a piano until the very end. At first I thought that it was a nylon string guitar, but it was hard to tell because of the synth sound. It is an interesting melody and arrangement...

Re: Kulos' tracks:

This goes to show that you don't need a Dean Razorback and a wall of Marshalls to make heavy metal! Not really my thing, but I thought that it was well done and I didn't notice any real problems. :D

New Song - Galactic Holiday

This is my latest song. It is sort of an electronic-jazzy-pop song. Let me know what you think! In particular, how is the frequency balance, clarity of the instruments, and reverb levels? I wanted a lot of reverb in order to try to attain a sort of dreamy, space travel-like atmosphere, but I am afra...

Re: two of my songs

Both tracks are not well balanced in frequency content. They are almost all low and low-mid frequency with little to no high frequency content. This makes them sound muffled.

Re: My Song - Robdrums Studio - Home Studio Production :)

Just about there! I think that the level on the guitar still needs to be brought up a bit. It is now well matched to the other instruments, but it should probably be a little louder, as it is the center of attention. Make it stand out, at least in the guitar solo, since you don't want it to fight wi...

Check out the Drum Machine Programming series of articles from the early 90's. They are simply great.

Re: Have reviewed other songs! Hope you will review my new song

Wow, that is more like time travel! It took me right back to 1985! It sounds like New Order, Pet Shop Boys, and Men Without Hats all rolled into one tight little song. The only thing missing is the midget! :D
