Would this come down to the jitter components that are being utilised in the patch or is it down to the way the patch is optimised? Reason I ask is that I could try some feebie max visualisers and see if my system can cope before taking the plunge.

I would not suggest going to an older version. The whole ecosystem is pretty sensitive. The app the script the server and Live all need to basically 'agree' to work by being versions that each anticipates.
