My experience is that "computing space requirements" often takes a surprisingly long time, but at least in my case it has never failed to complete.

I've been having the same problem on Windows. After much investigation, I believe that the indexer is actually finishing its work, but for some reason it is not successfully telling the Live GUI to withdraw the spinning wheel.

What I find is that when I get a library from somewhere, I can't put it in a random folder in Places and also have it find its samples correctly.
