Re: Basic Live Questions regarding backwards compatibility

Thanks guys. I wish there were a way to make it open an earlier version! But perhaps there's something else wrong if my powerbook won't open Live 7. This is good to know. I have created all my previous Live projects on the big Mac and will render or access from a small external drive. Big thanks! Op...

Basic Live Questions regarding backwards compatibility

It's been a LONG time since I used Live. I currently have 7.0.18. I was using this, or barely starting to use it along side my band for live performances. I'd like to pursue that again, but my "laptop" is the last powerbook Apple made 1.67. Its running 10.4.11. I'm wondering whether I can ...

Thanks! Oh no! I've done it! I didn't ask many people how. Nobody as a matter of fact. I'm just saying that it seems to me the overall majority of folks here DON'T do that. They don't use Live for that. That's all I'm saying. edit - reply looks confusing because helter skelter edited his post. He as...

Cool. For me, as the tools get better, I keep expanding. I keep trying to whittle things down, but I end up with potentially multiple set ups and systems. I have four Metric Halo interfaces. My whole audio universe is dependent upon them. I sum to the Record Panel, 18 DAW outputs. If I need more I a...

rahlo! I remember you! Hey man! AND you're a Metric Halo user too.

These days I have to use more applications and DAWs than less. Also PT LE 7.4. It gets confusing sometimes . . .

Your laptop might not take too many tracks/plugins but your dual G5 should be fine. I see you run Digital Performer as well. What does that give you that you really like ? (being curious, not sarcastic with this) and Live and DP should rewire up very well. I'm not sure I answered this -- I mainly d...

I went with my original and just got the Live 7 without anything else. Since I have Logic 8 and all those Loops and various other software VIs, I can drag and drop those into Live. I tried it on 4.14 and all seemed OK.

Downloading now . . . .

Thanks everyone! Now I'm trying to decide on various upgrade paths. There's just the Live version, or there's the one that includes the Session Drums/Drums Machines, or the Suites. Anyone care to try and talk me into any more than the basic Live? I know it's very convenient to have Drums inside the ...

I love DP. But I'm slow to upgrade. I was on DP 4.61 until this week when I upgraded to 5.13. I don't upgrade until I see a reason for it. Same thing with Reason 4. I was on 3 until last week as well. I use it as a rewire device. As you can see, I'm kind of bringing things up to speed. I suspect I'l...

lazy, huh? they took away the EDIT button and put it back, racks, drum racks, time sig changes, dual core support, sidechaining, video export, slicing, dozens of features. the 'auto vocalist' is great, takes ANY song and gives you the raw vocals. if you have the money and like Live, it's a no brain...

With all the extra features, you will need a fairly powerful computer to run Live 7 as opposed to the more minimal Live 4. You can see my computers in my signature. Not powerful enough? Time stretching questionable improvement? Sounds intriguing. Time sig changes sounds great. I'm not too intereste...

No hints? Anything you find most useful? I'd rather get user opinions than just downloading the demo, if you don't mind.

Upgrade from 4.14 Live 7????

I've been an inactive Live user. I thought I might try it again. I have Live 4.14. What does Live 7 give me over 4? I know that's several upgrades inbetween. I'm not so interested in Operator and the drum stuff. Is time stretching improved? I was upset that time signature was unchangeable. Thanks!

Thanks for the deactivating tip, but I don't get it. I looked up deactivate in the manual and I don't see anything about deactivating clips. I can't seem to get right (control) to work here on my powerbook to use this feature. CCan you enlighten me some more on this?

Really? Thanks, but I got excited and looked at the preferences and they're already set to that. I have a lot of scenes in some of these Live Sets. But I suppose if I relinquish some of the real estate by hiding in/out, crossfader and maybe mixer, that'll definitely help. Hey I'm almost a total newb...
