Re: List of poly synths in Ableton Live 10?

All of the stock synths in Ableton are polyphonic (Analog, Operator, etc...). If you're extending that to Max for Live devices, some are, some aren't. For instance, Bass is part of the Max for Live Essentials pack and is monophonic. Most of the stuff you'll come across is likely polyphonic with the ...

Re: Any ideas on this synth patch?

Could probably get close with a couple of slightly detuned saw waves and a square wave to add a little body. Filter to taste and maybe add some distortion/overdrive to give it some bite.

Re: Core 2 duo laptop for Live 10?

Have you tried running a demo to see how it goes?

EDIT: Sorry, just noticed this was specifically asking about 10.1, not 10. I'd imagine it would perform much the same.

Re: Upgrade or not

Once upon a time, Macs were better for music production and creative tasks in general (I don't think too many people would argue that), but nowadays, it's really personal preference. Part of the reason why that belief has stuck around is just good marketing on Apple's part and parroting by creative ...

Haven't listened to it for a while, but from what I remember it's just a really pronounced reverb and a touch of delay.

Re: Software issue maybe

This would be a question better suited for NIs user forums, as it is one of their products. However, a quick Google search came up with the following:

If you're running playback via Session View, refer to this old thread:

Re: Question about Ableton and RAM (memory)

If you are using midi tracks mainly, this shouldn't affect Ram or disk usage, as midi is pretty low bandwidth data. Midi tends to affect CPU use if using softsynths. If you are using large sample libraries however, you could eat up ram. You can monitor your ram usage on a performance monitor progra...

Are you asking if you have enough gear to make music? Lets just say yes and leave it at that.

Easiest way to have everything set up how you'd like when you open Live is to create a template.

Re: Question about Ableton and RAM (memory)

If you're using a lot of plugins, that's adding CPU strain. Adding RAM won't really alleviate that problem. Trying freezing tracks or bouncing them to audio. You could also put the plugins on a "low quality" mode while you're working and turn them up when it's time to bounce if they have t...

Re: Surge Protection + Energy Consumption + Master ON OFF

As I understand it, unless you expect to deal with a lightning strike, turning off the surge protectors isn't going to leave your gear vulnerable. Sounds like you have 5 inputs used up, so if you want to consolidate all of that to one device, I'd consider looking at a Furman power conditioner.

Re: Question about Ableton and RAM (memory)

That's quite a bit of RAM already. Are you using a lot of large sample libraries? If not, adding more RAM probably isn't going to do much for you.

Re: Things you wish you knew when you started?

Not really a "wish I knew" thing, but I can't recommend learning the quick keys and forcing yourself to memorize them enough. Hopefully you'll get a lot of enjoyment out of Push and use it a lot (I do), but you'll still have to spend time working with a mouse and keyboard. When you do, usi...
