ClyphX Pro runs on the control surface thread so less than 25ms, MaxforLive runs on a low priority thread and stacks it's calls so you may wait a while with lots of recalled parameters... This is done by activating a controller as a control surface within the top half of Ableton Lives MIDI Preferences screen, I don;'t have any knowledge of your specific controller features however.

You need to select it as a control surface in the top half of the preferences window, it has nothing to do with MIDI Mapping.

Doesn't get any easier than straight up midi clock in that situation. Link would probably be easier actually.
