Re: Buying new gear what happens to your old gear?

I just bought some laser lights for my studio/man half-a-cave, I think I have found a new hobby to GAS over.

That reminds me of when I bust out my $700 laser at gigs and people come up and tell they think they saw the same one on the Home Shopping Network. Yeah, I’m sure it’s totally the same laser at 1/10th the price.[/quote

Re: Proudly collecting music gear and software for no purpose

I'll be getting a powered subwoofer any day now to round out my "PA," this way I can play my moog synths and get a full spectrum of sound, all the while driving my dog (my only probable audience at the moment) to the point of desertion.... Oh and a EHX C9 organ machine guitar effects pedal...

Re: Buying new gear what happens to your old gear?

Still kind of amazing how well it's held it's own as a hardware synth though. If we're talking polysynths, there's not much out there that comes close still in terms of features and polyphony. I've had so many Virii over the years, and I still think about getting another one every now and then. Whi...

Re: Buying new gear what happens to your old gear?

Poor lonely virus, I hope it is getting some love. I could never wrap my head around it but the blue lights were pretty. :) I’m sure I could wrap my head around it now, but I’m also sure software now has that sound more than covered. you are probably correct, by now, software has it covered and som...

Re: Buying new gear what happens to your old gear?

I abandoned my entire old hardware setup at my cousin’s back in 2006 for safe keeping. This included a big fancy production desk with rack mounts, 2 guitars, a bass, a Emu sampler, a Virus Indigo, Roland v-drums, some rack effects, a rolling rack box, and a pre Mac Pro Mac tower. I’m thinking an ea...

Re: Buying new gear what happens to your old gear?

My old gear? I pretend to myself I'm going to sell it. I take some great pictures of it, then I put it in my attic until I have time to deal with it, then a friend says "You still selling that old X, can I try it out?" . They borrow it for 6 months and when I finally remember who I lent i...

Re: Proudly collecting music gear and software for no purpose

Reminds me of Reason’s virtual cables which was about the only thing I found interesting and good about Reason. Reason 1.0 user here, great program. Sure in the last 15 years everything has passed it up, but in 2001 I was rewiring Reason into DP2.7 and getting multiple VI's out of a G4 400Mhz machi...

Re: Proudly collecting music gear and software for no purpose

On the lines of using gear, but gear lust in general: You guys may want to step away from Logic and Studio One by this summer! DP9 free update coming promising 4X better CPU performance than another popular DAW (Logic). They're getting ridiculous Kontakt counts, 16 instances loaded with 16 instrume...

My thoughts go out to all musicians who pass, I must have subconsciously sat that one out.....My parents probably played hotel California at least 3x a week from 1976-1982 (from then on I had my own musical identity and tastes)

Re: Ghost producers

15 years ago a producer with very big credits offered me an my writing partner at the time an opportunity to be his "bitch," doing all his midi programming and production with no credits. When asked why not promote us as artists (which was was we wanted) he said we weren't cool enough for ...
