make sure the kick is in tune

dont compress subs

and ying and yang, if the kick is subby have a low mid bass.

You may be better doing manual slice mode or use drum racks and slice to midi.

Try splice

Yeah sounds like you need some work. Watch the gain staging.

If you want to overdub automation but don't want to overdub MIDI data you must ensure you are not in the Notes mode. You need to be in Session view or Push will Pseudo arm the selected track and start overwriting note data. You will see this via the track arm light going a dull red when in Note mod...

Also, research gain staging. It will help you understand how to set up your tracks best.
