Re: How do I give the bass more punch and power?

Well if I listen to your example and your own sound, are you sure it's the bass that's lacking in power? Because I don't really feel like your little loop lacks bass so much, but it's hard to compare a simple loop to a fully mixed track. A lot of the power and energy of the example comes from the te...

Re: New production computer.

If you are going for a PC laptop, have a look at Thinkpad series. http://www3.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-p/P50s/p/22TP2WPP50S They often get overlooked as they are marketed as "business" laptops, but they are very solidly built en forego some of the flashyness of consumer l...

Re: Beat Tools - New Pack for Suite and Push owners

I'm just always a bit puzzled about this whole "beatmaking", as if "beat" is a self-contained subgenre of music and they had to invent a special word for the making of it. Is there anyone just making beats? Like, no other instruments? Or when you're done "beatmaking" do...

Re: Where can I find an online tutor for EDM production?

The Deadmau5 masterclass was ok, and of course there are many great masterclasses and tutorials but I think what the OP is looking for is a scheduled class- or lesson-with-actual-teacher to give him/her structure and a mental push to actually sit down and do work. I can totally understand, as I have...

Re: Vertical zoom of clips in Arrangement view, please

I think what he means is that in Ableton, clips in the timeline have a colored strip at the top and then the clip contents beneath that (if the track is expanded), which are not colored (transparent). No matter how high you make the tracks in the arrange view, that colored part of the clip doesn't g...

Re: use one controller both as control surface and standard map?

Thanks for the replies. Editing the midi channel of the MPK Mini in one of the programs seems to do the job. So program 1 is on midi channel 1 and this is what the blue hand responds to. If I set program 2 to midi channel 2 the blue hand does not respond anymore and I can use this program to make ha...

use one controller both as control surface and standard map?

I'm wondering if it's possible to use one midi controller both as a control surface (ie, enabling automapping/blue hand) and a standard controller (hard wiring midi mappings to select functions), possibly by switching to a different preset on the controller. (I'm using an Akai MPK mini). Anyone know...

Re: Anybody using Focusrite audio interfaces?

I'm using an 18i6 since a couple of months (bought second hand) and happy with it. Solid build quality and I can plug in a couple of synths, mic and guitar easily in one box.

Re: Two BIG Problems with Plug-In Delay Compensation in Ableton

Exactly, in the end Live is still supposed to be usable in a live setting too, where you might, for creative reasons, be switching effects on and off all the time. Surely you would not want this to have the effect of changing the PDC every time. You could have an argument about whether Ableton shoul...

I don't think so. Best bet is to hope for either another update to Live 9 that improves legibility on high res screens, or Live 10 :) (surely we're gonna hear something about Live 10 this year eh??)

Re: Trouble getting a midifighter 3d working with ableton

There's two ways to work with midi controllers in Ableton, either by setting it up as a "control surface" or as a standard midi device. For use as a control surface you need a script (Ableton comes with scripts for a range of devices preinstalled, but you can also download scripts from oth...

Re: Velocity of kicks

I guess it doesn't really matter, unless whatever instrument you are using to play your kick is modifying other parameters than volume (like a filter, or aspects of the envelopes) with the note velocity.

Re: What game are you playing now

Right now I'm playing The TALOS Principle and The Swapper on PC. Both really cool sci-fi story/puzzle games. I've been quite into this genre the last couple of years. I really enjoyed games like Dear Esther (ok not really a puzzle game) and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. And also the delightful retr...

Re: Wacom Tablet for Mouse Replacement

YES!! Using a pen is so much nicer than using a mouse. Especially for drawing notes and automation. Since naturally, drawing and writing just feels more natural with a pen, and is simply more precise than you can ever be with a mouse. Definitely give a it a try.
