Re: How do I control other instruments on/off, racks or channel?

As per usual I look at something for ages, finally post to a forum, then find something useful straight after. *facepalm* I'm off to read a load of bits about the Live API and max live.object.

Any general pointers on the above still very much appreciated though...

How do I control other instruments on/off, racks or channel?

I'm stuck! I'm trying to make a device that takes some controller program change messages, then chooses an instrument based on the current value. I've worked out how to get the MIDI messages in, I've split it so I now have a Max midi box with the current program, but now I'm not sure what to do. I s...

Toggle hi/low vs momentary midi CC messages.

I'm trying to assign a controller I know very little about to turn track mute on & off. When I put in MIDI learn mode it seems to assign, but the button only then will turn it off, never on again. Anyone else seen this? Is it they way it sends the message (maybe toggle vs momentary)? Can I chang...

I'll have a go with the M4L ones, but out of interest, which free app do you use? Might check that our too.

Is there a MIDI content displaying device in M4L?

Hello, I was wondering if there's a M4L device I can monitor what MIDI is coming into a track, i.e. Note on/off, velocity, channels, CC#s and values, sysex, etc. I think you can buy an app that monitors MIDI ports but if there's a max for live device it's probably easier and maybe free! :) I'm curre...

Apc40 step sequencer

I remember lots of people talking about running the apc40 as a step sequencer with m4l with live 8. Just thought since I have suite 9 I now have m4l. What's the latest? Got any links to any m4l devices?

Re: Push and crazy time signatures

You can use triplets, with 6/8 pads used per row. Just re-reading this: do you mean it does 6x 8th beats per row, starting the new bar on a new line each time (i.e. 2 spare buttons on the end of each row)? If you do 16th notes in 6/8 does it do the 12 notes as 6 per row (with 2 spare pads per row),...

Re: Push and crazy time signatures

Ah-ha, here ya go, my "Diplodocus Jive" in 29/8! Another W.I.P., but it's undeniably wonky-funk: https://soundcloud.com/elviswhistlehoof/diplodocus-jive Gotta throw in that extra quaver or a drummer might get complacent and fall asleep just playing in 7/8 constantly. :D Some would say too ...

Re: Push and crazy time signatures

Btw, do you have a soundcloud example or anything? I'm curious how annoying it sounds :p Don't have any 29/8 uploaded at the moment, but as an example the verse and guitar solo of this is programmed 21/8 (3x 5/8, with 6/8 every 4th bar). Main riff is good old fashioned 6/8. I do the changes with ti...

Push and crazy time signatures

Hello! I'm thinking of buying a push. Can someone explain how the step sequencer part works with things other than 4/4 (video would be great if you're bored). Does 6/8 use 6 per row? Or 6 then 2, plus 4 on the next line, another 4, and the 5th/6th on the next line etc. How about 7/8 or 5/4 (if not t...

Grooves!

Whenever I seem to program stuff and it's funky, but missing something I can never find an ableton groove that makes it any better. What's wrong. Do I need to program the thing incredibly straight and dull and not what's in my head, then apply grooves, or are there certain grooves that seem to make ...

Re: Remember the Bloody Audio Interface!

I assume you're not a laptop user then who uses a mixture of internal half the time or has a wire to the Hi-Fi for general sound, or plugs into an external Firewire one when it's time to make music or listen to tunes on the big speakers? If I only ever opened Live when connected to the MOTU I might ...
