Re: Hardware more reliable than software?
I totally can sympathize. Back in the day, I had a zip disk for my MPC fail and I lost all the music I wrote that year. It basically made me (along with a few other factors) stop making music for over a year I was so annoyed. On a semi-aside. One HUGE turnoff on the MonoMachine for me was how easy i...

Re: PSP MixPack v.s. iZotope Alloy
I haven't used either of those, but in response to your last remark: Saturation: Many people swear by PSP Vintage Warmer There are a few tape saturation plugs that I am also very interested in by Massey, UAD, etc but they aren't in my budget. Compression: I like Ableton's Compressor for sidechaining...

Re: What should 3phase do?
3phase is awesome, we need people like him. I agree. 3Phase is educated, informed, and opinionated. Sometimes that rubs people the wrong way, but it doesn't make his opinion any less valuable. He is one of my favorite voices on the Ableton forum, and I am always interested in what he is saying, we ...

Re: Problems freezing due to sidechain routing
Well, at least for me - its sidechaining that's eating a lot of CPU. Freezing the midi helps some, but generally not enough.
I usually just record it.

Re: Problems freezing due to sidechain routing
Yeah, that's the only workaround - and unfortunately (at least in my experience) sidechaining puts a hefty strain in the CPU. I typically record the sidechained track as audio and use that. If I am worried I may need to go back, I will keep the midi track, and just deactivate/mute it, and turn off t...

Re: How to program a fat bassline based on a kick?
Yep. Most Hip-Hop until the mid to late 90's had basslines made this way either an 808 sample or a Low passed filtered bass sample from a record. An 808 can be used in tons of way for basslines, smooth subbass for hip-hop tracks, crazy res filters for jungle tracks, lots of potential. I got asked f...

Re: A fat reverb !
This is true. I really like the Alesis reverb algorithms. I picked up a Midiverb II for $39 a few months back. The Quadraverb is a good choice for the classic IDM stuff. Noisy as all get out, but some nice algorithms in there. I have a Lexicon LXP-15, and I far preserve the Alesis boxes for synth /...

Re: A fat reverb !
Aha, thank you for sharing your insight. I always hear good things about Logic Space Designer, never tried it. I am actually using the Reverb in Sugarbytes Effectrix a lot (in fact, I only really only use it's Delay and Verb), which I like, but it has a "sound" to it, that I am not 100% ha...

Re: How to create the HOOVER Sound ? ( Without the Juno Synth )
B/C those of us who have listened to dubstep for longer than a year know the diversity of the scene before this generic sound (yes, I will say the truth again) gained a ton of traction and became the sound that the masses (and people who don't know the history of the genre) define dubstep by. Try li...
