Re: why does reason 4 sound so much better than live 7?
absolute rubbish. (that reason's quality is better) I am a (former) reason and current live user and the results are solely based on your knowledge of using the product and your mixing skills. If you can't get Live to sound good, it's because you don't know how to use it and are not taking things su...

Re: Jagger on music industry (and mostly other stuff)
He has that right. U2, Madonna, etc all make far more money from touring, licensing music for ads and image rights than they do from selling albums, and they still sell quite a lot of records. Let's face it, the top 2 dozen DJs make far more coin than the electronic music artists records they spin. ...

Re: Most comfortable studio headphones
The comparison test is interesting but not that useful, because it is based upon a drum machine sample, plus various sine waves etc, which is by no means a test of real life situations. It's better than nothing and representative to a degree but by no means a complete range of testing. As for commen...

Re: What does "Indie Music" mean to you?
What a load of toss. Throughout history, it has often been independent label artists who have been the trailblazers pushing the boundaries. They have been less controlled and given more artistic license typically than major label artists. In this day and age, major label music has become something m...

Re: Most comfortable studio headphones
All headphones are hyped !!! Especially in the low end and around 10 Khz. I have Senn HD650s ans they are the most comfortable cans i have. Any closed back headphone is going to give you sore ears after a couple of hours of continuous use. I would be careful with blanket statements such as HD650s an...

Re: if live 9 is not 64-bit...
A lot of machines won't easily upgrade to 64 bit and will have many driver issues, so for many, upgrading to 64 bit means buying a new computer which is hella expensive. There are also tons of incompatibilities with plugins in 64 bit. Natively coded plugins in 64 bit work better, but are immature an...

Re: What does "Indie Music" mean to you?
Having worked for a major record retailer back in the day, the definition of indie was a smaller record label which was not distributed by a major label (i.e. sony bmg, universal, emi, wea etc). An example would be Indolent records, home to The Wannadies, 60 foot dolls, Sleeper etc, who were distrib...

except Logic 64 bit lacks some of the functions of the 32 bit version and crashes more !!!
But if you do a lot of stuff with streaming samples, from say, Kontakt, Omnisphere, or VSL or East West libraries it will eventually be the new norm and offer large benefits.

Re: Setup for recording
+1 M/S can work out OK if your mic has an 'omni' mode as well as cardiod / hypercardiod mode. The NT-1A has a cardiod polar pattern, which is not the same as omni. It's a great mic for recording acoustic guitar and vocals though. I have 2 Rode M3s, so either record with both (I usually set one up at...

Re: Buying Advice Needed - Electronic Music Production
Everyone is going to list their own workflow and you can bet that one man's dirt is another man's gold. Do your research. Refer to magazines such as Sound On Sound and Electronic Musician (and avoid computer music and associated mags). Ableton Live runs fine on a PC if it's optimized, you do not nee...

Re: what controller or synth is this
WTF was that ... Music for the ADHD generation - nothing to hook you in because every 5 seconds it warps off in tempo and glitching, the part near the end with the piano and analog synths was ok for 4 seconds until the silly tape slowing down effect. I know Myspace is not the best for quality either...

Re: WTB. Cubase Studio 4 or 5 or essential or trade with live 8
The audio engine was altered at Cubase 4, it had to be in order to accept the new VST3 format plugins. You wouldn't want to trade Live 8 with CB Essentials - Essentials is a very stripped down version of Cubase. Yes, Cubase Studio might be an appropriate swap. Why exactly do you wish to trade Live 8...

Re: How do i record guitar onto ableton with my fastrack pro???
follow the tutorial - live has various tutorials. on setting up audio devices. in your preferences, audio select the fasttrack pro driver (choose asio not mme) and set your latency so you don't hear clicks and pops but can play without too much latency. Guitar is mono sound, so if you connect to inp...

Re: Compressor with presets
+1
This is why people should learn to use these tools manually, rather than going for the comfort and convenience of presets, and this applies to EQ as well. Don't search for the magic button, it doesn't exist !
