Just to let you know futureproof, I use a mac because I use programs that are mac only, (Logic, Digital performer, Pluggo, Zebra, and ton of free AUs) Live 4 is one of the few cross platform apps I own. I also happen to like the OS better, personal choice I know, but I can't stand XPs graphics, or w...

What I did was upgrade to a 5400 rpm drive for my powerbook 800mhz model, and put the 4200rpm it came with, in a firewire case, the small HD's don't require extra juice, so you could use it on a plane. Two distinct advantages to the smaller drives with Live, size and portability. That and you have t...

hours, minutes, seconds,

Hey SMPTE is great, so is bars/beats, but why no hours minutes seconds display? Could really use that when jamming out a song.

Really? 10-20% free space, hunh? Mine is an internal 7200 rpm 60 gb drive, and I've got right around 5 GB left. It's getting full quick. It'll be hard to free up space b/c I do some of my production work on the road, and all my samples are on the internal drive. I know I could transfer them to an e...

No problems with NI stuff here, EXCEPT when I insert a new NI instrument while the song is running. This crashes Live 4 about half the time. Reactor is almost guaranteed to crash Live if I try opening an instance of it while Live is playing.

I'm not sure why, but when an Ableton sponsored electronic event rolled through town a while ago 9 out of ten laptops were powerbooks. I think a lot of people doing powerbook jamming with Live are using Max/MSP or Pluggo along with it. The whole cut and paste app with the cut and paste plugs, and co...

There goes any chance of any real discussion about politics etc.. Dude! NEVER bring your belief in UFO's into a political debate, unless of course you WANT people to think you're a nut job? It just reminds me of how unorganized and stoned out of their minds the left has become, it's no wonder the ri...

Drag and drop fro the desktop/hard drive etc.

OK this one is driving me bananas already.... Drag and drop audio files from the finder, PLEASE! I want to be able to search my hard drives with the finder, and once I've found the files I was looking for I don't want to have to find them again with Lives windoz browser! Apologies to windows p...

Right now I'm using Logic for basic song creation, then taking audio into Live for arranging and performance. Live allows for multiple controllers and soft synths to be used, Logic does not. Logic will get plug in delay compensation before Live does though, a consideration if you're buying a powerco...

I've for a 3.2ghz P4 HT alongside a Dual 2 G5 and the P4 is marginally faster. But and it's a big but. With an app that's optimised for the G5 it's a different story. With Logic 6 I can run around a hundred busses, audio tracks with a dozen hungry synths and the meter never goes over 20%. On the PC...

Maybe it's just the way I use Live, but I got all exited about being able to take the myriad loops I'd made , and completed songs into Live and rearranging them. I never though of Live as a host that I should run a ton of FX and soft synths in? I have Logic for big CPU hog issues, hard core midi, an...

the speed argument, yawn..... Like I said nobody has even mentioned the Centrino chips, and those fucking things are SICK! I feel pitty for all of you PC fools who bought AMD or P4 chips thinking you would have more power, the benchmarks are out of hand. This is coming from somebody that real...

Yeah, that's not really the same as splitting keyboard to control one synth on the lower, and another on the upper. It seems that besides samplers, it's one thing I feel is missing from hardware land, split keyboards. It seems like such a basic concept.... Kompact is the only soft synth/rompler I ha...

Split keyboard for two soft synths?

Hey, I was wondering if there is a way to assign a soft synth in Live to a certain part of a master keyboard? Not all soft synths allow you to set a range for their keyboards, and it just seems so natural to want to split a keyboard in half with the upper half being one soft synth, and the lower bei...
