you're also neglecting the fact that most every producer in the world intentionally smashes their music up as high as they go. NOT just the newbies. This doesn't make it right. http://www.digido.com/misc-content/honor-roll.html +1, dude. There's a lot of data that shows people don't like to listen ...

Sound different? No shit... 8O Waveforms look different zoomed to 1 1/2 minutes than zoomed to 10+ minutes? Congratulaions, you solved the case! Not quite. The time zoom doesn't make a difference. The db meter is all that matters. If you take a look, the Live mp3 has some clipping above 0 db's, but...

I'd like to see a real comparison done - the two MP3s that were posted are useless for any kind of comparison. Just out of curiosity I opened them both in Audition - here's what I saw: Live track: http://members.cox.net/willowhaus/pix/live_track.JPG MPC track: http://members.cox.net/willowhaus/pix/m...

Technically, yes it's infringement. It hasn't been anywhere NEAR long enough for it to be public domain - somebody owns the right to that recording. If you're running it in a national ad campaign, better to cover your ass & pay the license fee.

I think you should really just listen while you move the low frequency point up until you hear it change, then see where you're at. If you're doing rock, you're not likely to have a lot below 50 Hz anyway, but you might lose some punch. Dunno if I'd roll off the bass & kick, unless there's an ob...

Nice stuff! Honestly, sounded pretty good to me on my cheap computer speakers. ;) If I were you, I'd try an experienced mastering engineer first. Maybe you could send them one track & see what they do with it, if it's more to your liking & different from what you'd have done. If you do it yo...

Oh, and compressing for radio is just absurd. Most stations compress extremely heavily already. You would not believe the huge level differences that get ironed out on the back end with brickwall limiting. Radio is already going to squash the shit out of your music for you - you really don't have to...

Funny how many people nowadays use the term "Mastering" when they really mean "compress the shit out of..." When was the last time anyone asked what EQ they should use for mastering? "Mastering" does not begin & end with a compressor/limiter - hell, if you're ...

Honestly, most of that sounds boring to me - slice & dice the same lo-fi syncopated drumbeat? Maybe that's why so much ____core music sounds the same to me. It's a good beat, but damn - sounds like most people don't even use the more interesting part of it.

Use something else, be original.

I just checked the specs on the sick 1500W 18" Yorkville subs we use, and their freq response is rated down to 45Hz. Freq. response is an over-hyped spec. You have to put it in context or it means nothing. Freq response at 45 Hz +/-3dB tells you something useful...I could just the same pump 45...
