Re: Audio Interface Suggestions

As I said in a similar thread not too long ago, I was in this same boat about a year ago. And after looking at darn near all of the big name audio interfaces on the market in the $200-400 range, I went with the Scarlett 18i6. Re: Melody to MIDI in Live 9??

Drums to MIDI works very well. And singing to MIDI works very good, with anywhere between "a little" and "no" tweaking needing to be done to get the MIDI melody exactly how you wanted it. Well, though, if you veer off pitch a bit, the MIDI will switch pitches to go off key, obvio...

Re: Quick Song Mode (Full Concept)

I build most of my songs in session view, and this feature would be unbelievably cool actually. And the far right Xx number of times each clip is played is, by default, based on the longest clip in that scene. Yeah, this would be a freakin' awesome workflow tool. I love this idea actually. +1 EDIT: ...

Re: Ableton Melody technique's

One very cool thing about the built in (ie: quick) nature of melody to MIDI in Live 9 is the ability to quickly sing a melody, and have that converted to MIDI. Now, true, nothing really *replaces* music theory and experience, but I was making a song with my sister (who loves all things music, but do...

Re: Catanya - new powerful arpeggiator MIDI Plugin

I do not own Cthulhu yet. Will it allow the input of midi and record the pattern? Do you mean, can you record the pattern that Cthulhu outputs, based on your initial pattern? If so, then yep. You just have to have to play around with the routing. If you ever get to that point, let me know and I'll ...

Re: Catanya - new powerful arpeggiator MIDI Plugin

http://www.xferrecords.com/products/cthulhu I own both plugins (and they're my two favorite plugs, behind Superior Drummer), but Cthulhu is a lot different than Catanya. Cthulhu can do some things similar, but yeah, the beauty of Catanya is its maaaaasive number of unique presets. Not that you have...

Re: Recording electric guitar into live

That was super helpful dude. I really appreciate you taking the time. Sounds like I will be up and running with suits amp and cabinets. And nice chops by the way :D Thanks! And no problem. There are also lots of free guitar amps/impulses online as well. Back when I was doing a lot of research I ran...

Re: Recording electric guitar into live

Hey dude, so here is something I just now recorded that shows the different Ableton amps. Giving things another try, I really do like some of the clean sounds we have here. BUT, depending on what one wants, the distorted settings could give much reservation. Also, you can of course really bring out ...

Re: Recording electric guitar into live

Personally, if you were going to go with the Apogee Jam, then that's cool. But for the price you pay for an Apogee One, I would get the Scarlett 18i6. It's a ridiculous $236 on Amazon right now (http://www.amazon.com/Focusrite-Scarlett-18i6-Interface-Featuring/dp/B004W6KREC), and it has two (very hi...

Re: Recording electric guitar into live

You can read all about guitar interfaces, so I won't belabor the specifics. I am not familiar with Macs, but I know with Windows, you really need a guitar interface if you plan on playing guitar along with drums, other music, etc. The latency in built-in sound cards really doesn't do it. But yes, to...

Re: An all round solid EQ VST

I like using EQ8. EQ8 allows to cut the bass on some tracks, and boost the highs on others. Since it's native and not a VST, you can use as many instances as you like! I love EQ8!!!! It's good now that they implemented the spectrum into it. That was a PAAAAAAAAAAAAIN to keep switching back and fort...

Well, I don't have a Mac, and I don't own a controller of any kind. I'm a 'traditional' musician, but I think that what you did is pretty awesome. Great work dude.

Re: When did it happen - your first inspiration?

Eddie Van Halen's gratuitously long solo (the "316" track) on "Live: Right Here, Right Now". I would record it back to back, on both sides of a cassette tap, so I could just keep listening to it. And then I knew then that I wanted to play guitar. So I got a guitar and played rock...

Re: A few questions for Live 9 beta users

EQ8, its got this really good solo mode where can just hear the bit of the audio affected by the eq - really handy for cuts and notchs - where you know there is some audio gak you want to discard; now you can just scroll through the spectrum until you hear the bit you want to lose. I forgot about t...
