mac vs. pc files?

I'm up to do a remix project for someone, but he gave me a disc today and the filenames are . . . Lead Vocal.L Lead Vocal.R Electric gtr 1.L Electric gtr 1.R Etc Like ".L" and ".R" is the extension. I'm not hiding extensions in XP, so that's the full file name. Also, I'm not sure, but I think they w...

I downloaded this, but then decided it's be a good idea to reformat my machine (for other reasons) . . .so now I'm in the middle of reformat hell . . but the gist I get is that this is good for live audio, but not so much for "jamming" with VSTs/midi?

True or false?

i wouldnt worry about this too much man, just use your ears. a tick is just a small amount if it sounds right, you're on .. if its a bit off, nudge it a few ticks the way it needs to go ;) . Yeah, that's kind of the impression I'm getting. lol. Thought it might be something important I needed to ed...

Fook me. The more I ask about this, the more I get confused.

How many ppq's does live have?

Was waiting for that. :?

And hoffman2k, is that absolute or relative to the sequencer? I did some googling and it seemed like everyone was saying something different. What does a tick equal? A millisecond? Something else?

Right, that's what I figured. So it's sequencer specific then?

i.e. a tick in Cubase is only 1/128th whereas a tick in Live is 1/4096th?

What's a "tick"?

I've been reading various production materials and they say sometimes . . move the beat ahead (or behind) "a tick". What exactly is "a tick" in sequencer terms? Like 1/16? 1/512? Is it arbitrary?

Yes, it's VST and AU I think as well. Most "soft synths/samplers" are one or the other if not both.

You should get the demo of Live and of Kontakt. See what you think.

Do you find there's a real advantage of playing with something like an MPC/MPD or Trigger Finger or Kontrol over just donig it on a MIDI keyboard? If so, what?

I guess the thing that I'm still unclear about is how these things work with Live. My (admittedly incomplete) idea of a sampler is something that works in conjunction with a recorder/sequencer, so that while you are running the recording software the sampler is running and allowing you to trigger t...

There used to be a problem with them back when they were introduced. Don't remember exactly now, but it seems like it was an issue with the instruction set? I believe it's since been fixed though. edit: some cursory googling says that maybe it was actually an L2 cache (or lack thereof) with the earl...
