Re: Momentary disengage of Kapture possible with footpedal?

Your new patch isn't set to "open in presentation mode".

Re: Momentary disengage of Kapture possible with footpedal?

Right, but why can't you route the MIDI message you need to the track with the midi device that I'm suggesting? Is the Wiimote or whatever not an option for midi input in Live's preferences?

Re: Momentary disengage of Kapture possible with footpedal?

I think it's because you're using a midi input object on an audio track, and that won't work. So you could replace your [ctlin] object with a [receive], and then a make a simple midi m4l patch on a midi track with [ctlin] into a [send] with the same name as the receive. I'm not sure that's the issue...

Re: Key-mapping a M4L device problem, buttons aren't momentary

Try using the Max objects "key" and "keyup" to capture your keyboard releases, rather than using Live's built-in key mapping, which is made to ignore key releases. I've never mucked about with them, but I'm sure you can get it working the way you want through means like this.

Re: Comparison: Max for Live v. Logic Pro Environment

Yeah, see, I'm just using it to send control messages, not so much note messages. So a 12ms latency is a-ok for me.

Re: Comparison: Max for Live v. Logic Pro Environment

I think if you're unfamiliar with Live that elaborating on what stringtapper is referring to with Live's handling of midi is worth a moment. Calling it a lack of support for multichannel midi I/O is potentially misleading. What Live does is this: at any point coming in, and at any point going out, L...

Okay but I do think the bumping is a bit much.

Has anyone figured out a way to edit your own skin colours?

Is there a backdoor way in to wherever the skin details are stored so you can edit in your own colour values or something?

While I agree with you in principle. Shel, I would give anyone with 500-odd posts the benefit of the doubt. It's not like he just signed up to advertise.

Re: Should I buy M4L with discount or wait?

I would buy it now. The longer you play with it the more ideas you have and you might as well start that process now.

Oh, and I'd bet $100 they don't include M4L for free with Live 9. That sounds like crazy talk.

Re: protip: editing max patches as text

Oh, I figured that out. When I'm working in M4L, I do this: 1) Select and copy all the objects in the patch you want to edit. 2) Open a new max file. 3) Paste in all your objects. 4) File --> Save As whatever, wherever you can find it (I just always call it temp and save to desktop). 5) Edit "t...

Re: Midi CC from M4L that triggers Midi mapping in Live?

I imagine on a Mac, if you enabled the output to the IAC Bus and input from IAC to remote in Ableton preferences, you could set your track containing your M4L device to output to the IAC Bus and remote map things that way. I'm not sure how you would do it on Windows but there's probably something si...

protip: editing max patches as text

I don't know if this is so obvious that it's ridiculous that I'm suggesting it to people as a tip, but I thought maybe it was worth sharing. I save myself hours sometimes when I'm building iterations of something by editing the max patch with a text editor and "find and replacing" my key v...

Re: What exactly can M4L do that's so cool?

I would say quite simply that "if you can't think of a reason for it, you don't need it" is a pretty good guideline. I'm super into it because it lets me interface with Live precisely how I want to (like having one button press have complex consequences), but if you aren't feeling those ne...
