Audacity is a good editor and it will do all those things. It might not be as easy as more expensive programs. So at some point, the time required to prepare tracks might make something more expensive start looking appealing.

Another thing to check: This can happen if the sample is not edited to start and/or end on a "zero crossing" point. Check the sample in Audacity or some sound editor. Zoom 'way in. Both the start and end of the file should be edited so they're cut right where the waveform crosses the 0 line.

We use Session View, with Scenes for each part of the song (verse, chorus, etc). Sometimes, we use Follow Actions for all the clips in a given row, to move through the song as we normally will. You've got it right. That tap function is for the currently selected scene. So, we have to figure out an easy way for you to select the scenes you want (easily) before tapping the 2nd...nth scenes.
