the way this thing is designed reminds me more of a "fast&thefurious-promkingcar" than of a professional audio kit.

From what ive heard you shouldnt run into any troubles.

Also I updated the first post again and added the information about using Impulse with the MPK Pads.

If you dont have any other additional scripts, i'd recommend deleting Live, reinstalling and put in the mappings from scratch. The Mapping should be listed in the control drop-down menu no matter if the MPK is connected or not. Since its listed in the I/O-Section the device itself seems to be working.

No, they should be auto-mapped to the first 8 parameters of the device currently selected.

If not something went wrong (Preset not uploaded to MPK, Script not recognized,..)

I gave MoDrum a shot 2 days ago for fun: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150519469820391 Had to play a DJ Set and thought I'd sync my iPhone to ableton just for the fun of it. It worked quite well but after around 30 Mins the ad-hoc WiFi dropped for some reason and I wasnt able to resync...

As for overwriting a snapshot, wouldnt it be sufficient to just tap an existing snapshot with 2 fingers to overwrite it?
Even with the screen-estate of an iphone this would still be kind of reliable, I guess?

Got this finally working today which is kinda neat as it turns the iPad into somewhat a dedicated synth over wifi.

Just like with everything else, the real fun isnt just using loops but chopping them up and creating something new out of them, and in that case it doesnt really count whether its a field-recording of your old grandma hitting some snares at 10bpm or PrimeLoops.
