It could be just a quirk with the Oxy. If I plug mine into my system while it's powered up (tibook osx) the whole computer locks up. But if I plug it into the usb port before powering up the tibook (with oxy's usb power mode on), it works just fine. I just did three shows this weekend with Live and ...

jnchris, On your Oxy, if it says 'Octave/Presets' above the octave keys, you can do that. First, though, you must program each knob in each bank with its own 'program number' and 'midi channel' (using the Oxygen itself). It's very easy to do. I've made my knobs to be all on the same midi channel. Fo...

You don't need any more ram! 8O Save that for a hard drive... I have 512 mb, and I'm doing okay... You know, in the end (of all your woes), I think the fault lies with Live. They need to jump on the Altivec-programmed thing to bring the program up to snuff... I bet, in a year, we'll all be extremely...

Yeah, the drive's a little bit of a hassle. But it's just not possible to achieve 7200 rpm speeds with an internal drive.

You're right about the cable clutter. I also bought a Tibook for that reason...

I have the 667, the close relative of the 550... It's cache is a little too low, true, but I've got a new 7200 rpm firewire hard drive (with an Oxford 911 bridge) that I run Live off of, and store audio information. The drive has a built-in 2 meg cache... I saw the performance almost double with the...

Geraldo,

I use the 24-bit, 44100 hz setting... So far, in os X, it's been fine. I never hardly have a glitch, but one must never say never.

Overall, I think it's great.

By it's nature, Live tries to sync any sound to the current bpm. It breaks the sounds into virtual pieces to get that effect. Perhaps your loops are out of thier native bpm, and so you could match Live's bpm to theirs to achieve the smoothest sound... (sorry if don't realize you are already proficie...

In Live's Audio Preferences, you can increase the buffer size. That's probably your problem. It will add some latency, but if you set it just right, you can have a good compromise...

jazze,

There's a setting in system preferences under 'energy saver', then 'custom', then 'options'... uncheck 'put hard disk to sleep when possible'...

It works with my firewire disk...

Hey logos, what's scutphuzz? A VST? who makes it?
I'd like to know, too. I can't seem to find it anywhere... The description of it sounds like "scrubby" by DFX. That plugin is one of my favourites...

reel to reel system and Eno

Hi, thanks for the response... Brian Eno, the guy from the seventies (who later produced Talking Heads and U2), is who coined the term "Ambient". On his album "Discreet Music", he used a reel-to-reel tape recorder delay and a moog to introduce music, somewhat indiscriminately, an...

Ambient Soundscaping

Hello Everyone, One of the uses for Live that I never hear talked about is the "Ambient Soundscape", ala Steve Roach... Live amazes me, the possibilities are endless in the terms of playing un-synced sounds routed through effects chains, resampling them, introducing new sounds from a mic o...
