Re: What is the best method or to create a drum beat / groove?

Do it the hard way. Get a cheap pad controller like a LPD-8 and practice.
Took me a few months of practicing before I could lay down a consistent beat, but it is sooooo much faster than programming stuff in by hand.

Re: MBP replacing the optical drive w/SSD 4 samp libraries

Yup. I grabbed this kit and another drive to replace the optical. Works perfectly: https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/DDAMBS0GB/

Re: MBP replacing the optical drive w/SSD 4 samp libraries

I don't believe there is a difference between the interfaces since they are using the same bus, so you should be ok. You can also run Activity Monitor and monitor disk I/O while you're using your plugs. Then you can see how hard the bus is being worked. If it's really getting worked, you'll definite...

Re: Mac specs for faster video render in Live

For video rendering, you'll see a HUGE speed increase from c2d to an i5/i7.

Re: Switching MIDI mapping

You could do this in M4L, but I think it would be easier with an Instrument Rack.
Place both instruments in a Rack and use the macro controls to map your params. Then use some other control to toggle mutes on/off for those instruments.

Re: A sick PC for CPU heavy serum bangers

And are you saying not to use an ssd at all? Do I need multiple hard drives like one for sounds and patches and whatever and one for live and my OS? Nah, get the SSD. Unless you're constantly reading/writing 24/7, it will easily last until you need to upgrade. SSD technology has improved dramatical...

Dear Ableton,

Please make a watered-down version of Live for the iPad Pro.

Re: Hide your laptop on stage tips? No screen performance tips?

You're thinking about it wrong. Instead of opening different sets, merge all your stuff into one big set. Yes, it's tedious pain in the ass and will take time. However, you will be able to navigate this big ass set. Alternatively, you could use VNC or RDP on a tablet or smartphone, but that would de...

Your system can't handle that workload. You'll either need to bounce to audio or change the way you work.

Not that I've seen. However, you can go mDP -> HDMI -> something like this: http://www.miniinthebox.com/hd1080p-hdmi-input-to-hdmi-audio-decoder-with-audio-edid-setting-converter-box-adapter-5-1digital-decorder-spdif-3-5_p1765452.html That box plus the cable would be under $100, which is pretty OK.

Re: Since most people call Live "Ableton" ...

I run Ableton on my Apple so I can music. When I feel the urge to do some photo or video, I use Adobe. Adobe works pretty well, but it's still a jumbled pile of shit and Adobe's support is hilariously bad, and their forums are full of self-righteous assholes. I'd like to try Apple, but I'm so used t...
