Re: How Do I Synch Ableton 8 To An External Drum Machine
You should be able to slave Live's clock via MMC/MTC. As for your drum machine deciphering a steady beat from all your banging...that might require workarounds.

Re: Getting to grips with Drum Racks
Not sure I completely follow, but if you create an empty drum rack, and drag and drop your samples onto the individual pads, it will give you individual "tracks" for each piece, with the drum rack track acting as a group. You can process each piece individually, and compress the kit as a w...

How about making it a Live Pack? You get there via the file manager window.

Re: Vocoder and MIDI track volume help
So, I just took a short vocal clip, added the vocoder with a carrier track, and tweaked the depth and formant to get a pretty standard vocoder sound. This is a Live Pack, so you install it from the File menu in Live. Try hot-swapping different carrier synths, and also set the vocoder track input to ...

Are you changing the automation with a controller, or by editing the envelopes?

Does the instrument you're using utilize velocity? Some patches don't.

Re: Synth out of tune when exporting tracks
Unless you prefer working in 48. In which case, what is likely happening is after exporting, you play the 44.1 export in another media player, but your interface is still working in 48 kHz, so the audio plays at the faster sample rate (and tuned sharp consequently).

Re: Cheapest way to convert line out to headphone?
I use a Behringer headphone amp. It's not in the recording chain, and it does what it's supposed to.

Re: Understanding global quantization
No, what he's saying is arrange all your normal playback clips into scenes using a 1 bar global quant. For any additional clips you want at a smaller quant, insert scenes in between your main ones, and drop the clips in there. That way you can launch a scene normally, then have additional cells for ...

Re: Vocoder and MIDI track volume help
All my mics are at my buddy's studio, otherwise I'd build you a small set to demo vocoding. Actually, I still may be able to with a standard vocal sample. In the meantime, you can hear my use of a vocoder in this track: http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=7149471

Re: Limiting Vs. Clipping
A limiter clamps down on the signal hard, but there is still some degree of slope on the "corners", if you will. Clipping has no corner curve, but rather a straight cut across the peak - hence the term square wave.

And make it pre fader, so or you can use a return as you're doing, just make it pre-fader, ditch the phased reversed bits, and automate the source track's fader.

Re: how to make a dry/wet with return tracks?
Are trying to make the return 100% wet to add onto the feeding tracks, or are you trying to "divert" audio from dry tracks to the wet returns? If it's the latter, there are easier methods. Traditionally, returns are used to add a wet effect to the unaffected signal, not replace it altogeth...
