Unless you prefer working in 48. In which case, what is likely happening is after exporting, you play the 44.1 export in another media player, but your interface is still working in 48 kHz, so the audio plays at the faster sample rate (and tuned sharp consequently).

Yep, and depending on the design, some clip more musically than others.

A limiter clamps down on the signal hard, but there is still some degree of slope on the "corners", if you will. Clipping has no corner curve, but rather a straight cut across the peak - hence the term square wave.

And make it pre fader, so or you can use a return as you're doing, just make it pre-fader, ditch the phased reversed bits, and automate the source track's fader.
