got it to work. i was saving to the sets folder in the library. i didn't realize you needed to save elsewhere (outside of the library folder) in order to get it to save w/ the samples.

i always got the error mssg using u-1. i did get it to work using the u-4 (usb) or s-4 (midi) setting on my bcf both via usb or midi. of one mode doesn't work try some of the other ones - they just may.

wwell i did get it to work although not via USB. i connected it via midi cables and put it in S-4 mode. it took the dump no problem and seems to be working fine.

thanks for the links youri - i didn't realise it was a common problem. i just figured i was doing something stupid.
