You can click the "automation mode" icon which is next to the "automation lock" (a lock icon) around the top-right corner of arrangement.

Re: How future-proof are Max for Live devices?
Probably not the answer you want to read, but personally I use my own devices ONLY because I know how to fix them if needed. Even the stock devices are usually buggy…
But it takes years to be confident with Max patching.

Re: Send the same MIDI Note
Yeah but you will necessarily hit several notes, not at the same time, thus triggering the same note several time.

Re: Send the same MIDI Note
I've seen your PM but will try to reply here if you don't mind as it could help some other users. I didn't think about the "multiple trigger" issue. I guess you'd like to ignore every subsequent notes (in the same area) and trigger a note off only when all keys are released ? I can't think...

I would create a Drum rack loaded with 128 empty chains. Then open the I/O section of the rack and change the "play" note for each chain.

Re: Routing & Drumrack
No need for that. You can create an audio track and select any drum rack chain from anywhere in the set as an input source.

Re: automatic audio track with input from new midi track.
Not sure you can select a MIDI track as an input if it doesn’t have an instrument loaded. (Not in front of the computer right now)
