Re: the topic of topics: MIDI vs AUDIO ("what is music"?)

regarding max i never said "it is only midi". I said OSC is like a modern, more functional, deeper kind of MIDI for automation, so modification of "audio" parameters with osc is similar to midi "mixer" and effects automation.

Re: the topic of topics: MIDI vs AUDIO ("what is music"?)

it's simple: "timbre" is not necessary. It can be an important element, but it is not necessary for music as a universal code. Notes are necessary for music, not timbre "modifications". Without notes (intervals in time) there is no music. Without timbre there is still music (infa...

Re: the topic of topics: MIDI vs AUDIO ("what is music"?)

I'll keep waiting. How did the specific code of one specific composition get from the original composer to the transcriber without the transcriber ever having heard or seen the music before he started transcribing it from an audio file? imagine you find a score sheet written by mozart that no-one k...

Re: the topic of topics: MIDI vs AUDIO ("what is music"?)

the code is buried in the audio, otherwise one couldn't listen to audio and write down the notation without ever seeing the notation before. simple. no, the code can be transmitted via audio (but it is not necessary, infact one could create a melody in his mind... like beethoven etc.). Audio can co...

Re: the topic of topics: MIDI vs AUDIO ("what is music"?)

LOL you are saying: "guess what i am thinking of, otherwise your theory about grammar is wrong" It's obvious that BOTH words and music must be known to be transmitted, otherwise are thought! What the heck of an argumentation is yours haha  Music exists because of the cod...

Re: the topic of topics: MIDI vs AUDIO ("what is music"?)

i answered you yet, just read again: you make confusion between "code" (music) and "style" (what you call "arrangement", in italian "indicazioni", for instance dynamic suggestions, "pedal", "legato", "staccato" etc. Your mistake i...

Re: the topic of topics: MIDI vs AUDIO ("what is music"?)

no. In italy "arrangement" (arrangiamento) is when you harmonize a theme, putting chords, you choose instruments, change tempo, beat etc. because of the "style" you want to create. You make confusione between style and code. It's much simpler than you think, actually. You ...

Re: the topic of topics: MIDI vs AUDIO ("what is music"?)

it is not absurd You are saying that it is NOT absurd to believe that a person could already know the specific "code" (specific arrangement of pitches, durations, and dynamics) of a specific composition without ever having heard it before? 8O Specific arrangement is not music notation. In...

Re: the topic of topics: MIDI vs AUDIO ("what is music"?)

The "specific" code does not exist. It's only you believing that. A code must be UNIVERSAL, like tonal music (infact for me music is ONLY tonal music). That is why you can think music (for instance, a melody): because music is a UNIVERSAL (standard) LANGUAGE. But you cannot think "sou...

Re: the topic of topics: MIDI vs AUDIO ("what is music"?)

it is not absurd, it is just called "learn intervals". You think about "the code" as something "supernatural"? I told you: the grammar of music is: intervals+rhythm. The rest is sound. Just realize you are wrong with this example: MIDI contains 12 tones called "C, ...

Re: the topic of topics: MIDI vs AUDIO ("what is music"?)

So if the musician who transcribed the music from an audio track was not the composer of the music himself and had never heard the music before he began to transcribe how did "the code" get into his brain and onto the paper? "The code" must exist in some way within the audio fil...

Re: the topic of topics: MIDI vs AUDIO ("what is music"?)

I said that a human (who would necessarily have to be a musician in this case) who transcribes from an audio file is re-encoding this "code" as you call it and so the only logical conclusion is that the "code" in fact remains in the audio in some aspect or else the musician woul...

Re: the topic of topics: MIDI vs AUDIO ("what is music"?)

?!!! 8O wait: you wrote "this is a contradiction" and i explained why it isn't. then you wrote: "for the listener it remains music" and i said "yes of course, infact i am talking as a musician" but your error is that you believe the code is in waveforms. NO! the code is...

Re: the topic of topics: MIDI vs AUDIO ("what is music"?)

there is no contradiction at all. Music is a code that must be played in real time by human performers (from mind to action). Otherwise it is sound, not music (and the "code" is in human mind, not in the waveform!). The key element is TIME. Of course, being music a human code, for the list...
