Re: Ableton Live 11.1 Apple Silicon Memory occupation

Pasha, check Apple's refurb and you'll quickly get a chance to grab a 16GB for the price of a 8GB one. Those machines are not upgradable and hopefully you'll use it for many many years... programs probably won't stop getting more and more hungry as the machines offer more power. Thanks Jur! I'm on ...

Re: Ableton Live 11.1 Apple Silicon Memory occupation

I checked the ram when opening live 11.1 yesterday and live is using quite some ram to check the plug in library, then it goes back to normal. It uses I think around 700 MB with an empty session if I remember correctly; and typically between 2 and 2.5 GB including the AUhost process. It's hard to s...

Re: Ableton Live 11.1 Apple Silicon Memory occupation

Out of habit I don't usually go over 12 tracks with various plugins inc omnisphere Hi Mark thanks for reply! Your usage is very close to mine. Usually in my compositions I try to mimic a quartet or a quintet so you can guess that the instruments involved might be drums, bass guitar , rhythm guitar ...

Re: Ableton Live 11.1 Apple Silicon Memory occupation

I use a M1 mini with 8GB ram, with no issues whatsoever that includes using Kontakt librarys, or plugins. Thanks Mark. It's very useful to collect many experiences. Budget wise sometimes I think about my doings and if I use 8GB RAM now on Intel it should be almost the same on Mac Mini M1. What's yo...

Re: Ableton Live 11.1 Apple Silicon Memory occupation

I’ve got a maxed out 16”. I don’t know if my experiences would be similar or different from the Mac mini. Honestly, I use Live here and there but I’ve regularly been the kind of person who does more tinkering with Live than actual composition. My discipline in that realm isn’t all that great heheh....

Re: Ableton Live 11.1 Apple Silicon Memory occupation

Keep in mind also that when you First open Live, it’s still doing a lot of work in the background to get things sorted. I usually don’t think it’s fair until I’ve had Live sitting open for a couple hours. And then close Live. Go do something. Open it. And then do the test. This is something for aft...

Re: Ableton Live 11.1 Apple Silicon Memory occupation

Hi Jur, Thanks so much for reply. I am a Live Suite user, updated to 11 before it went out. I am not in possession of the Mac Mini machine as it is owned by a friend of mine which has no DAW. I simply had time to compare what I described. I was surprised because since 2013 I am using an Intel Machin...

Ableton Live 11.1 Apple Silicon Memory occupation

Mac Mini 256GB/8GB here. Monterey as OS. Before activating the license I am testing the trial version. Just after the initial load Activity Monitor shows 1.9GB. Intrestingly enough if I open the Demo Live Set the memory goes down to 1.52GB and if I play with internal audio card and default settings ...

Ableton Looper as a Guitarist

For years I have ignored the looper effect. Recently I grabbed a Pre Owned MIDI Commander and I was able to have some fun. However what I do not get right is the need for the looper track to be armed (REC ON) and Monitor on AUTO other wise no audio is recorded in the looper. This implies that during...

Re: Pls validate my understanding about Live, M1 and Rosetta

Yep with both VSTs and external drum machine (TR8-s), no issues. Thanks Mark! I have session drums pack so I use the plain kits in it. Experienced CPU and opened a bug. I have an iMac 2013. Had my M1 Mini for just over a month with zero issues.
Do you use drum racks?
