Re: Is there any point in needing to Defrag in OSX Leopard

oh that sucks... btw, a much better and faster way to work is to create a small partition on your external drive as a toolkit volume... install Mac OS X on it and any utility apps you use... then boot off the external drive to do things like disk cloning, repairs, and defrags... even better, also cr...

Re: OT: Zoloft and anxiety/panic attacks

my attitude is that psychotropics are wonderful tools that have the ability to short-circuit your consciousness into different mental/emotional/spiritual states that your are already, in some latent way, capable of experiencing... however, they also need to be treated with great respect for this abi...

oh, and i've had Techtool Pro's defragger crash on me a couple of times (and it's painfully slow), so i would definitely avoid that...

Re: Is there any point in needing to Defrag in OSX Leopard

Mac OS X defrags smaller files automatically (ones under 20MB i think), and does some smart usage of free space... in most cases a defrag app isn't necessary, however if you are dealing with big video files a lot, then defragging may help a bit, especially if your drive has a lot of stuff on it... i...

Re: Anti-shock hard drives?

the 7200RPM Seagate Momentus drives are spec'ed to 60 degrees celcius operating temp... the one in my current MBP has never gone past 40 degrees, even in a 35 degree plus room...

overall it runs only a degree or two hotter than the old 5400RPM drive i had...

Re: OT: Zoloft and anxiety/panic attacks

I'm in the UK and I get the impression there are major differences in the treatment of mental health issues compared to the USA. There is definitely a big difference in the relationship between doctors and the pharmaceutical industry, mainly as a result of the NHS and centralised buying of medicati...

Re: OT: Zoloft and anxiety/panic attacks

There seems to be some kind of taboo about taking medication for mental health issues, especially long term. For any other medical condition (migraines, blood pressure etc) its not a problem, the doctor prescribes the pills and you take them. But when its a mental health issue most people don't lik...

Re: Anti-shock hard drives?

I have a question for any SATA boffins though... The Seagate drive's SATA interface is 3.0Gigabit/s, while my (and I'd imagine yours, being the model just before mine) MBP's SATA bus speed is 1.5Gigabit/s. Comments I've read on some forums say I'll need to put a jumper on the drive to slow it to 1....

Re: Anti-shock hard drives?

you definitely don't wanna get a new drive with an inbuilt shock sensor... your Mac already has one, and the two systems can conflict and cause system crashes...
