A tragedy, there isn't anyone who can replace him for breadth and depth of music knowledge and passion. Peel's list of bands he broke reads like fiction (it is so wide ranging across the genres), it seems impossible. I am proud to say he asked me to do a Peel session in the mid 90's and joined the m...

This is a vast topic, but there are a few points I would like to make/raise before the black helicopters come to get me. Firtsly : If you are in the UK there is an interesting documentary series called "Power of Nightmares" (wed BBC2) paralleling the rise and ideology of the neoconservativ...

My main problem is with the file systems of the current OS's used (mac/win) - IE hierarchic (tree) . When one of my samples could equally be considered a child of loops/ambient , but also of realworld/enclosed_spaces/edited I need a non-hierarchic file system to deal with this, where files can repre...

I am wondering if the 'concious ' mind .. IE the wordy mind, is the first to go to sleep leaving the reptilian brain to get its funky goove on. Have you ever had a dream where you listen to some music and think " wow, that is some impressive tune - so evocative. Why can't I write something like...

My second computer (after my home built zx81) was an Apple IIe in 1983, complete with a Greengate DS3 8-bit sampler, which really was an excellent piece of equipment... way ahead of it's time. It was the only other option to a Fairlight ! A lightpen let you edit the harmonics of your samples directl...

My "Pro-tools" kiler app reference refered to the time before Logic or Centrino, at the dawn of decent PC computing. When Atari 1040st ruled every studio ... a real computer, It had a built in midi socket on the side ! Imagine me on stage in front of a couple of thousand ravers while I swe...

why do apple dominate in theA/V and graphics industries? firstly - stability. Most studio clients through the 90's, and by that I mean the 'producer' who books all the gear and the engineers in, their only experience of win machines was '95 or '98 ... which redefined poor stability. That kind of set...

D for Disk

as in 'slow'

Solution : set a few loops to be from the RAM and keep only the large and long tracks from the disk, that will lower the disk seeking.
Or get a faster disk setup.

Perhaps it is a ruse to get enough traffic (of angry producers) flowing to their site so that they can provide impressive page hit figures to advertisers! "Hey look, we hadn't even opened for trading and we received over a million hits per week!" Sadly, It's the same old same old - *my fir...

Sadly that's not the case when dealing with open ended software emulations. I could understand your point if we were only ever going to play a fixed number of tracks with a fixed number of effects on a fixed resource consuming application. Unfortunately (for my machines cooling) I am a total resourc...

the smaller the bar, the better the performance. That dothan 2mhz above the dual 2.5 mhz Macs is making me laugh - a laptop supercomputer?

even better, why dont you take a look at www.synthedit.com and make your own VSTi very, very easilly. It's like an expandable Reaktor - but you can export your creations as VSTi . The whole app weighs in at about 2.5 meg Oh and did I mention that it is shareware :) ... is $20 too much to make your o...

Ok, I too would like MP3 support and am glad of the (ableton) insight into the problem. here's my half witted idea... perhaps allowing a 'mode' of audio track which limits the warping functions on any mp3 based audio to be less immediate. Call this mode 'DJ - audio' ;) if you want to do anything rea...

Hi, Jamie Lidell is a friend of friends of mine (although I have sadly never met him), they share studio space with him when he is in Brighton. Anyway, I was talking to them about Live and they said - "Hey, that's the thing that Jamie is always on about !" Although, they could be wrong abo...
