M-Audio Direct Link for Oxygen V3 controller

The info at M-Audio's website says that the DirectLink feature that maps the Oxygen V3 controller's controls to Live requires no software driver because Live 8 has this built in. However, I'm still using Live 7. Am I just stuck having to do all the mapping manually?

Re: What Ableton IS KEEPING SECRET about Live's audio engine...

The issue of "in the box" mixes is really a side issue not the same as "how good is the audio engine". If you're into serious pro audio you'll know that even in the analog domain mixing has lots of potential pitfalls. There's still lots of controversy about whether or not you nee...

Re: What Ableton IS KEEPING SECRET about Live's audio engine...

There's nothing wrong with Ableton's audio engine. Few people doing electronic music (which is what most Live users do) push the limits of the audio quality of any of the DAWs, even everyone's favorite whipping boys Fruity Loops and Reason. Now if you need to record classical music in a great soundi...

Re: A cheaper MIDI guitar solution?

Roland, Axon and the old Peavey bass systems do indeed have velocity control that maps to the string volume. What doesn't have velocity is these goofy push button controllers. I have the Peavey MIDIbass (predecessor to the CyberBass) and it's absolutely killer but they are quite rare and of course t...

Re: Advice for an hardware guitar amp simulator ?

Buying a simulator is as bad as buying an amp, what sounds perfect to one player sounds like crap to another. How picky are you, is this for demos or finished CD tracks???? I spent $70 a few years ago for the Behringer VAmp Pedal. It has fewer knobs and fewer features than the "normal" VAm...

Re: Used MacBook Pro 13" - which model?

So, the CPU's are the same except the speed? Both are Core2Duos with the same architecture, right? So the 2.53 GHz machine (#2) will be fester than the 2.4 GHz machine (#1)? Yes and yes although the speed diff will not be massive (on paper 6%). I'm using a late 2009 2.26G MBP myself with Live 7, ru...

I used the Absynth demo for two years before I decided to buy it.

Massive is OK but what it does can be done by many other synths, Absynth is really one of a kind.

Re: Crashed Session; What do YOU do?

Not sure what you're asking.

I try to remember to hit save after every step I take that changes the project.

The few crashes I've had I just started again from my last save.

Re: Neko QX6 is gonna rule the world

What does it do that a lap top and keyboard cant? The hardware chosen for the computer portion is optimized for audio use. It's more like buying a "music PC" from a pro audio vendor than just picking up a Dell at BestBuy. Anyone who thinks Open Labs stuff is too expensive isn't the target...

Re: Should Native instruments change name to native sound sets?

Like it or not there is a large market for "radio ready" sounds, like the hundreds of loop CDs and Refills on the market... somebody uses them. NI is wisely cashing in on their technology investments. Free Kore and Kontakt players that get people buying sound packs at $50 a pop is a high p...

Start is not a CC, it is a real time message.

The suggestion of using a blank pattern is your best bet. I have used this trick with a DSI Evolver's sequencer.

Re: Tricks and techniques for creating tension in a track?

There's lots of ways to create tension:

--Cross rhythms

--Dissonant harmonies (resolving to consonant harmonies)

--Pedal tones in the bass while harmonies shift above

--Repetition in general

Re: Five12 Numerology...

Does it play well with Live etc??? I see there is an AU version in the works. It uses Rewire to connect to Live. If you are seriously into step sequencing Numerology is pretty intense. You can have multiple "stacks" going at once with intercommunication between them so one can manipulate ...
