question for someone @ ableton DEV TEAM
can anybody from ABLETON DEV TEAM indicate if we'll see the same UI fixes on PC that the MAC crowd now enjoys on 11.2?
can this be done AT ALL on PC?
can this be done with the current state of things on WINDOWS, JUCE, and all these things that have to play well together?

Re: question for someone @ ableton DEV TEAM
Plugin devs and JUCE can contact Ableton themselves just fine, if they feel it needs to be addressed on the host side.
They can explain things much better directly, they don't need to use random user posts in a forum they probably don't even read.

Thank you, super helpfull and definitly not fanboyish-flippant -
If no devs are reading the forums (which everyone knows they are, as they should) anyone else in the know? and please no further flippant b.s, this is a respectfull and legitimate question to Ableton!
Will PC users see, in a reasonable future, the same types of UI rendering optimisations thru Metal that the MAC crowd can now enjoy?
It's a simple yes/no question, there's no wrong answers...
except "NO answers"
Re: question for someone @ ableton DEV TEAM
I made a suggestion in the Live 10 beta 4 years ago to use CUDA/GPU power for processing after seeing Fab Filter update their GUIs to be smoother and more fluid.
It gathered 31 upvotes, but no direct response from Ableton.
This is the update from Fab Filter in 2012 that triggered my suggestion:
"All plug-ins updated with graphics acceleration
Nov 30, 2012
We have just updated all FabFilter plug-ins, adding GPU-powered graphics acceleration among other improvements and fixes.
Highlights in this update:
All plug-ins now contain the GPU-powered graphics acceleration introduced in FabFilter Pro-DS, ensuring ultra-smooth animation while leaving the main CPU free to do audio processing. "
I would have really liked to see some CPU intensive tasks offloaded to the GPU, but it seems like this would be a no brainer for leverage the GPU for UI optimizations and leave the CPU for audio intensive tasks.

Live uses GPU (for the GUI) in both Windows and Mac since Live 10, and Metal since 10.1.25 specifically.
EDIT: In fact, it may use OpenGL since way earlier, the Help site implies all versions used GPU, and there are some older posts (2006) in this forum about it.

Re: question for someone @ ableton DEV TEAM
Yeah it's a known fact Live uses the GPU for UI on PC & MAC since 10.
A lesser known fact is that on PC, it's been a mess.
And it's been a mess as well on MAC, but to a much lesser extent.
Yet still, UI lags were reported on both platforms.
Until 11.2 completelly fixed it for MAC users!
so when will this be addressed for PC users is my question

Re: question for someone @ ableton DEV TEAM
Many people at Ableton read the forums daily, but no they don't respond here anymore with timelines and what people can expect from future releases. They tried that in the past, but sadly too many people here were complete asshats to them, so now you just have to wait and see.
Improving graphics performance is always something being looked at, so I'm guessing you Windows users will see something on this front sooner rather than later.

What mess? Could you please elaborate that because with my old nvidia 2080Ti GPU I don't notice any issues.Sau6on wrote: ↑Sat Oct 08, 2022 12:32 amYeah it's a known fact Live uses the GPU for UI on PC & MAC since 10.

I just sent him a link to this topic, but seeing how lazy this dude is I'm not sure he's gonna be the one helping us

BUMP
It's getting very frustrating for a lot of PC users to have sets barelly hit 25% of the cpu (that's LIVE's cpu meter! which means 10% actual cpu usage on windows), have other fabfilter plugins running like butter, and have ableton's UI display 3 frames a second because of bad implementation of GPU render pipeline.
No other D.A.W exposes these issues on PC but Ableton Live! none.
SO : Is an optimisation on PC feasible, or not?

FYI 11.2 has not solved the UI freezes for all Mac users, I'm still experiencing them regularly on an M1 Macbook ProSau6on wrote: ↑Sat Oct 08, 2022 12:32 amYeah it's a known fact Live uses the GPU for UI on PC & MAC since 10.

well then, another reason why ableton shouldn't ignore user's questions? ableton?
Why/How/WHEN WILL ABLETON'S UI RUN AS SMOOTHLY AS ANY OF THE OTHER DAW OUT THERE?
