XTC - Dear God - How did i miss this tune?

Post by Martyn » Fri Nov 07, 2008 7:54 pm

I found this as a result of the Nostalgic old twat thread, which I had to click because it sums me up on most days.

What happened to XTC? They used to write catchy songs about serious subjects and get them in the charts, what happened to that idea?

Maybe some people didn't like songs like this one;

I however, relate to it completely. More relevant than ever.

XTC were a great band. I really got into the album Mummer at the time and still listen to it quite often.

Beating of Hearts is my favourite track -> http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-dXQBVvBtO8
"The banjo is the perfect instrument for the antisocial."

Never been in to them myself. I live in Swindon and they crop up every so often in the local papers and media, mainly due to them being the only band to come from the town plus one of them still lives here.

Our only other music claim to fame in Swindon is that Oasis were (probably) named after our main sports centre. Noel was a roadie for the Inspiral Carpets when they played there (I was there!) and that's what gave them the inspiration for the name.

This was their only tune I really ever liked.

edit: That and making plans for nigel, but I think I got into that because Primus or someone covered it.

edit: that and generals and majors. Fuck it they are pretty awesome.

Hard to believe I've been listening to them for 30 years, but yeah, one of my all time favourite bands.
