There's probably some validity to what he's saying, no doubt. If things continue on like they are, sure there will be some irreparable damage done. That's why we are visibly overjoyed about Obama's taking office rather than Bush changing the Constitution again only to give himself another 4, 8, or 12 years in office. Not saying Obama's the messiah like everyone else around me, and there'll be a lot he can't fix immediately, but at least it's a fucking start, no?

The major flaw here is the thought that it's going to be some armageddon or second coming where Jesus descends with rocket launcher a-blazin'. These changes are gradual. Although it's clear to see the US has taken some blows lately, I'd say the ship has sprung a leak and isn't sinking just yet. When it's 2/5 under the water, then I'll take the lifeboat called Canada. Or I'll apply for grad school in Europe. We might not be up for our best era in history, but I can't see us going from a primary world power to scavenging for food in fields of dust in 4 years in the absence of a nuclear holocaust. Sorry.

You've got to keep your eyes open and your heart steady. Panic doesn't help anyone.

Buy guns.
Whatever it takes to stimulate consumer spending! Buy an HDTV while you're at it.

Agree: the Fear thing is getting really tiresome. Honestly, even if it's all true, enough already. A brave man dies but one death and all that. Meanwhile, let's do what we can. Tell me something productive, something I can act on. If you tell me I'm doomed - foregone conclusion - my eventual response is the same as if you tell me I'm fine: "Nothing to worry about then."

Also agree: the whole frigging world is in for a rough ride, and the utter collapse of a nation as large and established as the US isn't going to help anyone else either. Look at how far the repercussions of Wall Street spread these last couple of months. (Though it could be argued that the a major portion of that potential has already played out, and we have certainly painted ourselves into a bit of a corner by becoming an overpaid, service-based economy, to such an extent.)

Revelation reveals the truth - revelation.
(revolution, revolution, revolution)

It takes a revolution to make a solution;
Too much confusion, so much frustration, eh!
I don't wanna live in the park;
Can't trust no shadows after dark,
So, my friend, I wish that you could see,
Like a bird in the tree, the prisoners must be free, yeah!

Never make a politician - grant you a favour;

They will always want to control you forever, eh!
So if a fire make it burn
And if a blood make ya run
Rasta de 'pon top, can't you see?
So you can't predict the flop.

We got lightning, thunder ,
Brimstone and fire - fire ;
Lightning , thunder ,
Brr-brimstone (brimstone) and fire - fiyah - fire - fiyah!

Bob Marley - Revolution
