Why is it so hard to just ignore a question if you think its beneath you? Do you have some kind of OCD that forces you to answer any question that you know the answer to?

When I was a few weeks into live I liked answering nooby questions because I appreciated it when people helped me, it was a test of what I had learnt, and I felt good that I was competent enough to help someone else solve a problem.

And actually the manual isn't all that great.

If they ask a question that has been asked a million times, chances are good they will be ignored or get told RTFM. If they use their head, and look around they will probably find the answer. If they can't, that is the time to ask the forums. Is that unreasonable? The people I am discussing are the ones who don't bother to find out if the question has been answered already, and come straight to the forums, when I know for a fact that the question HAS been answered in the manual, in the forums, and on remix.com, futuremusic.com, etc...

this seems to be missed on a lot of people who moan they can never find anything by searching:

Search for Keywords:
You can use AND to define words which must be in the results, OR to define words which may be in the result and NOT to define words which should not be in the result. Use * as a wildcard for partial matches

so "warping AND vocals" will bring threads with both words rather than all threads with "warping" and all threads with "vocals"

Check the number of posts I have made. I obviously don't have obsessive post answering disorder, nor do I attack people personally.

Good point. I hadn't thought about the possibility that they were unable to find answers due to difficulties with searching.

thats not how it goes around here..

even questions like

"my Ableton suddenly stops making music cuz I have music in the long window but now i have pressed play on some beats in the small loop boxes and now the long window doesn't make music anymore but the music is still there and I have a gig just in 2 hrs and dunno what to do.. please help! what did I do wrong?"

still get answered time after time after time.....

its the forum that decides what gets answered or not.. so n00bs are welcome to ask rtfm questions imo..

Did you search for this possibility on the forum before posting?

I reckon the most common question on here, from new and experienced users alike, is: what soundcard/headphones/monitors should I buy? And while a search helps, many people have their own set of budget, spec, space requirements which make it worthwhile asking again.

Edit: I think this forum's pretty damn good for on-topic help, even when I ask embarrassingly RTFM questions that I really should've known...

Edit2: oh, and don't forget searching the forum using google with site:forum.ableton.com in the search string...

in today's world it does not surprise me that so many people seem to lack even the most rudimentary abilities to research and assimilate information and to think for themselves. This is either laziness or (depressingly more likely these days) a product of a second rate education. However, there is no such thing as a stupid question.

To the OP: I feel your frustration and agree with many of your points however, trying to consolidate these points into a concise piece of advice for the noobs to take notice of before posting here is a little like pissing in the wind. You cant seriously expect someone who cant run searches or do a little digging for themselves to take any notice of this surely?

Someone else mentioned the utter shiteness of the search facility on this forum anyway. It is bollocks, I can never find anything that way. I guess my point is dont be too hard on people who are at a more basic level in their own development than you.

I like the easy questions - it means I can actually answer them and give something back to a forum that has helped me out a lot.

I do generally include a subtle reference to the manual when appropriate though!

I will gladly continue to help any n00bs I can.

And post rubbish when I'm drunk/high!
