yes yes yes !! eurorack format small look-a-like controllers for ableton effects. with analog cv/gate inputs for parameters! lets think about that. would bee too massive for operator, but for simple effects with few controls... think of impulse with gate inputs for triggering the samples and cv controls for every parameter ?

I have been wondering about this kind of thing lately. Maybe you have seen the Imposcar2 controller. Check the link below, for me though it seems a bit crazy especially at the price tag, I would prefer to spend that kind of money on a analog synth with controls. That being said this thing would definitely be much better than tweeking controls with a mouse : )

I've done pretty well with just an APC40. I think there's a total of 64 settings to edit when using the shift button to change banks.

But if you needed more knobs, a BCR2000 would work too.

My operator controller would just be whatever midi controller I had available with lots o' knobs (APC40) and a second monitor to drag the window to for a visual representation (Wish that could happen with ableton instruments, I like to do that with some of the VSTs).

I have the same setup anddo the same thing as you. Im considering changing the bcr2000/secnd screen vst setup, with machine.

I have a vision for a Live device specific controller. Unfortunately, I know next to nothing about how to even begin to realize this vision. Just in case someone could actually pull it off, what I'm thinking of has a touch interface in the center, rectangular in shape, similar in proportion to that of the device bar in Live. The devices would appear on the touch screen depending on which track you have selected. You'd be able to swipe through the devices on the controller, with the device in the very center taking focus. You could then tweak knobs, change values, etc. right from the touch interface, or use knobs/buttons on either side of the controller. I'm thinking something like 8 endless encoders on one side, and maybe a 4x8 button matrix on the right. You'd be able to lock focus to one device, swipe to another device and control both devices at the same time, using the knobs and buttons for the focused device and the touch interface for the centered device. There could be different colored boxes that surround the parameters controlled by the encoders, and of course you'd be able to bank through them.

I suppose the technology is just a bit behind on this one, but not far off. I'm willing to bet a touch tablet dock and a clever app will be able to do this in the next year or so.

I think a dedicated operator controller would be great. Although I don't really want to add more space. How about a dedicated ipad operator app? Hopefully the touchable guys get to it soon.

a controller for every Live device? how big are the tables you guys have in your studios?

I actually like the idea. A dream I had involved an iPad that had knobs magnetically held to the screen (perhaps with a felt-like material between them and the screen). When you select the device you want to control in ableton (e.g. Analog) the graphics on the iPad change and the device automatically shuffles the magnetically held knobs. Basically a custom controller that looks like each device. Before you say it, I know there are lots of complications and reasons it can't be done. I am just fantasising.
