+1.000.000.000

So many great features, but I love the way they implemented this one...

Simpler than Reason's ReGroove mixer, but probably more useful from the looks of it.

Are there any other apps on the market that do a similar thing while we wait?

Yes, this is great news!

I'm very much hoping that the groove support in 8 extends to control over the positioning of entire audio clips, as well as the stuff inside clips (can anyone from ableton comment?)

if you are referring to audio clips positioning in the arrangement view, no it doesnt.

are the groove function and files available in the basic version of Live? The video suggests that the groove files come with the Suite.

i think & hope in the basic version, if you check http://www.ableton.com/pages/live_8/announcement/home

"new in ableton live 8" the groove files are mentioned there and not in "new in ableton SUITE 8"

Either way, creating your own groove files is a breeze, so the non-suite version should still groove like a Mofo once you've extracted the timing info from some relevant source material.
