I completely missed this but in the newsletter in 8 you can:

"now possible to slice audio files to MIDI tracks based on transients."

Nice! Now the loop slicing in Ableton is competitive with other loop slicer plugins.

I'm so excited.

I'm really interested to see how improved the Midi Workflow is. Multiband Dynamics is something that looks incredibly interesting, as well as the Frequency Shifter.

MaxforLive is someting I'm looking forward to look and play around with, too.

Live 7 is like scoring with an unbelievably hot girl, Live 8 is just like that only she invites her equally hot friends(M4L and APC) into the mix

best new feature:

GROUP TRACKS!!

I'll probably get some use out of the new fx as well and I'm interested in the additions to the midi editor.

most still missing features (for as far as I can tell now):

alias clips
hide tracks
dual waveform display
wacom support
proper mixer in arrangement view

that's a very good comparison...
this explains a lot...

and soon you'll start noticing a pimple there and a stretch mark there...
but 1 year's relationship is pretty serious...
don't try and make it sleazy...

All honestely to me this update looks much more than a 7.something as 8.0
Very poor in terms of 'new features and improovements.
But that's my personal opinion :)

Well I'm most relieved to see folder tracks, group tracks and crossfades.

My favorite new feature however may be the looper - won't know until I try it!

Crossfades and Group tracks (totally yay for me, will push Cubase even further into the distance).

Then improved warping (elastique pro, yay, Abes listened again !).

I'm happy they included the new dynamics stuff like the multiband compressor and limiter, as Live was lacking in that area, but given I do some mastering work, I already personally own some sweet 3rd party vsts, so probably won't be using them *maybe the peak limiter if it's significantly lower CPU than my current tools might get used*.

However, much of the Live content I hear in the post your music, has issues with clipping and mastering in general and so providing these tools will help SOME of those who use Live as their only DAW achieve better results.

The groove track thing and slice to transients are also good.

Best of all, Ableton have knocked out many of the old wishlist, and stuff that really irked people for being lacking, like no crossfades on arrangement and group tracks, groove templates and (in Live 7) sidechaining and slicer and a decent quality compressor. And they still add some innovative new features too. Thanks Ableton team !

Live 8 is more like an international supermodel with hot friends except her & her 2 hot friends are away on a modelling assignment until the summer & the only thing you have till then are the emails & pics. her older molder sister will have to do for now.
