its actually less than £320 inc vat:

$399 = £268
+ VAT at 15% = £308

but yea, pretty much an extra 25%
:?

Just the way it is though. Partly down to higher import cost (transportation, smaller market, whatever) and partly down to greed and the ability to take advantage of the situation. Maybe a reason to join the euro?

We were getting screwed in Euroland for years paying the same in Euros as Dollars. Now that Sterling as come a lot closer to the Euro in value you guys are getting lumped in with us. Most companies do make the distinction nowadays but it was rife a couple of years ago.

I'm sure it's gonna be €399 also, so just buy it in Euroland and pay £359, still no comparison I know but it helps.

World wide pricing is nuts at the best of times, I save nearly 30% at the moment buying gear in the UK as Sterling has dropped so much in the past few months. About a year ago I was buying everything in the US.

After taxes, there should be no difference in cost of an item on the internet where YOU pay shipping, but marketing comes into it a lot I recon.

For those of us here in the US, you can pre-order it for $399 at

www.novamusik.com

Not sure if they ship international, but great company nonetheless. Great customer service, based out of Milwaukee. Free shipping on most orders as well.

Wow. Pre-ordering @ full suggested retail price is dedication.
I'll wait until a week after it's out. In the states, it'll be $299 @ that time... 7 days after the pre-order folks get theirs (maybe, depending on shipping).

It's cool, and I'll get one, but it's still basically a midi controller (with Live-focused built-in maps and pretty lights). They never go for their suggested retail price.

I got my UAD-2 from JRR shop in the states last year, including the shipping, 19%VAT and DHL handling fee I saved 100 Euros compared to buying it here. Go figure. Sucks if something goes wrong and you need repair though, then it needs to go back to the States.

Ouch - That's pretty expensive 8O

DV are normally good for prices - just got my Nocturn from there as it was cheaper than anywhere else - in the UK.

Off topic slightly I wish Akai/Abes had designed it so it duplicated the standard EQ on a mixer with three buttons in a row - seems logical to me ?

I'll have to stick with the Nocturn and my Faderfoxes for the time being :(

The Live Akai Edition license that comes with the APC40 should be worth a few quid on eBay, which will help to reduce the cost a bit more. You can get about £20 for a Live Lite license and potentially it could be worth more than that, dependent on the upgrade deals that Ableton offer.

It won't make any difference if its tied to an APC40 either, as the only reason people buy the Lite licenses is to get the cheaper upgrade.

Have Ableton announced upgrade prices for the Akai Edition????
