This seems crazy to me. One of my favourite features of Live has always been the quick and intuitive zooming in the waveform view, with a generously large area to "grab onto" with ones mouse.

What are peoples thoughts on this?

I mean, I can't really comment without trying the new way, but I really do love zooming the waveform, and I use it all the time.

Yes, I would like to have the old way in Live 8, too!

I always hated to zoom in Arrangement view and I don´t like to have it like this in clip view. Especially in a live performance situation uncomfortable to handle.

That's not entirely true. Yes, you can't zoom on top of the upper side of the waveform anymore, because now you can actually select stuff in clip view. However, if you just move your mouse slightly above the waveform clip view over the meter bar/time line you can still zoom inside the clip! It's about a centimeter more mouse movement and you're good to go. I love the fact that I can select stuff and have a cursor in clip view...

sorry, i don't get the problem, two minutes mental adjustment and I'm zooming around waveforms as easily as ever.

I just hand warped an old 3/4 acoustic guitar performance that was done without a metronome, and achieved better results in half the time it would have taken using the old warp markers.

The new way is FAR more intuitive, so if the zoom bar has to move upward by a few pixels in order to accomodate this new warping method, thats a small price to pay as far as I'm concerned.

You just have to adapt your technique a tiny bit, it's really not that different.

New way seems OK to me from the descriptions.

I just use hotkeys anyway.

Bring back the edit button.

It's just harder to hit that smaller area now, especially if you're live using a trackpad. I would often zoom in really quick on a waveform to change a loop point, or manually trigger a clip somewhere else. Now I have to hit a MUCH smaller area to do that, especially considering you could have the waveform area expanded before too. I agree,it's a small change, but it makes a huge difference to how you zoom and navigate within a clip. PLease let us select how we want this controlled in the prefs ala:

i also find the new zoom area way to small for fast working, it's very fiddly. It really slows down the warping process. And I don't think it will get much better "once you get used to it".
