froschfinger,

did they tell you a price for this upgrade ? when i go into my personal prices for upgrades, they tell me that in the moment the upgrade from my live7-license to live 7 suite would be 289 €. which is only 10 € cheaper than when i wait for the release of live 8 and then upgrade to live 8 suite. where does this number of 199€ for an edu-upgrade from live7 to live7 suite come from ??

I had similar problems in finding the appropriate prices. You won't see them on the website itself, they are hidden in the pdf you can download to order EDU upgrades and full versions. Take a leap to http://www.ableton.com/pages/education/ ... s/personal and choose your country. These are the prices I mentioned and which have been given me at the hotline.
I guess the upgrade price you found is for a regular update from your current version (7 I guess) to the 8 Suite. In my version you're taking another step (upgrade to Suite 7 EDU) in order to save bucks.
But what's the use in that

ah, ok, thank you. that makes sense somehow. so, obviously for live7 to live 7 suite there is still an education-pricing available, whereas it seems, that from live 7 edu to live 8 they cancelled the possibility of discounted upgrades completely, right ?

Exactly, that's what the guys say. There is another thread pointing out exactly this point. A guy reporting from a call to the Abes which cleared that up. If I had the chance to upgrade from 7 EDU to 8 EDU for the regular 69€ I would have been happy. So maybe choosing the whole suite then might be another 50€ extra, but gives you a lot more to work with ;) .

Not precisely. Quite another case. I referred to having Live 7 EDU and upgrade options going over a Suite 7 EDU upgrade which gives you a free Live 8 Suite upgrade. Word.

I think it is what the upgrade page (from the newsletter you might have received) says: 299€, at least for me (owning Live 7 EDU). http://www.ableton.com/nl199-live-8-upgrades
How much is that for you?

You seem to have missed the whole point of it - since Ableton changed their mind we're no longer getting EDU>EDU discount prices. When owning, as in my case, Live 7 EDU, the best you can get for your hard-earned money is an education-discounted upgrade to 7 Suite (EDU) for 199€ which will give you the upgrade to 8 Suite for free. Otherwise you have to pay the regular upgrade price (from L7 to L8 (Download) it is 149€). No discounted upgrades to 8 anymore.

Maybe I was too strict to you ;) . What you can do when you do not have a license (anymore) and you want Live 8 Suite EDU is buy the EDU version of Live 7 Suite and get the upgrade to Live 8 Suite (Download) for free. Maybe this is your best choice?
