Navigating Live with the BCR2000

Post by rbro » Thu Jan 29, 2009 3:14 am

Is there any way to replicate the keyboards arrow keys on the BCR so I can navigate around to a specific clip slot?

Yeah, if you set the BCR to Mackie mode in Live prefs, you'll be able to do
this in two ways: the easy one is to use four buttons, (left, right, up, down).
These need to be set to send MIDI note D7 (left), D#7 (right), C7 (up) and C#7 (down). (That *could* be only on the padKontrol, though - might be
D6, D#6, C6 and C#6 on the BCR; Korg apparently has a different way of
defining middle C). Anyways; this should be sent on MIDI channel 1, so, as
to free up the rest of the knobs/buttons on your BCR, set them to a different
channel.

The slightly more complicated way, which is actually rather simple, if you've
got a preset and use BCManager to upload it, involves using two rotaries,
so that turning the knob left and right will move track/scene focus left and
right or up and down, respectively (I really like this latter method). I'm at
work at the moment, so I can't dig up the preset at the moment, but it's
around here on the forum somewhere. A search for Mackie + BCR should
get you started.

Get back to me if you want me to send you the preset, with a quick walk-through.

Is BCManager available for the Mac? Will it overwrite my existing preset?

you don't need bomes, totaly overkill IMO unless you have some workflow I'm not picking up.

I use 8 tracks. a knob assigned to the 'scroll scenes' control, buttons for the scene up/down controls and the 'track launch' for 8 tracks.

the 4 groups at the top are for 4 sends, the encoders at the bottom are for sends FX control etc.

I beg to differ....
left-right arrows...ENTER....... so many functions for these in live...
Alt+left/right combinations....to move between sections...
Ctrl+left/right/updown... for the loop brace...
map keys to record quantization values and global quantization...
TAB/CTrl+TAB....
shall I go on???
basically all of lives handy shortcuts on your BCR...

Yeah, but the OP just wanted to navigate to a specific clip slot, and with
Mackie emu, you don't have to launch a second app.

I guess it isn't available for Mac - don't know if there's anything similar for
Mac, but Behringer's own, Java based editor supposedly runs on a Mac
(don't quite me on that): http://shoshin.110mb.com/genmce/bcr2000 ... ditors.htm.
I guess that it would at least - if you can get it
to work - allow you to get your current preset off your BCR and onto your
computer, so that you could have someone edit it on a PC, and return it
to you for re-uploading.

bcr 2000 with ableton live 7 on mac

Post by locojohn » Fri Jan 30, 2009 12:58 pm

well, I tried to apply the known Mackie emulation patch for BCR 2000 (patches 21 and 22, version 5) in SysEx format yesterday using SysEx Librarian, and the upload worked, but then I was unable to use all of the functions of the Mackie Control. Only a few functions worked, for example the second row of buttons would let me switch between clips horizontally, and 4 control buttons in the lower right corner of the BCR 2000 worked to play clips etc.. but that's about it.

Now could it be so that the patch applied only works with Ableton 6, but not 7? Is there a way to handle Ableton Live 7 in session view completely without a mouse using the BCR 2000?

Thanks in advance,

Andrejs

I'm really having difficulties imagining a situation where you absolutely don't
need the mouse, but a lot of stuff is definitely possible: until I got my BCF,
I controlled track volumes, pans and sends, scene/clip select, scene/clip fire/stop
play, stop, loop with my BCR. I also had it double as an instant map device
in the Live preferences folder, so that I had instant control of Live devices with
bank up/down.

It definitely works in Live 7, so something must have gone wrong. Have made
sure you've selected "Mackie Control Classic" and your BCR for track and remote
control in the MIDI controller preferences?

Here's a link to one preset which I think is rather popular:
http://www.geocities.jp/mackicrokontrol ... live5.html,
but for those of you who have access to a BCx2000 editor, I'd really recommend
digging through the forum here and tailor it to your own needs.

It's been a while. I have since then switched entirely Ableton 8 and AKAI APC 40 so this is no longer an issue for me. :)
