The trick is to load it in Sampler/Simpler, and have the perfect balance of Attack and Release, and also have the correct length of the loop and Fade setting. It is possible, i do it all the time.

yes, but then you lose the ability to change your tempo, unless there is absolutely no rhythmic content in the sound.

yes...? So? I hear modulation is the "next big thing" in synthesis... If you've never used a synced LFO in a pad sound now's the time to try it... it's quite good
Also a drone can be both a sustained or *a repeated* note. Repetition *can* be rhythmic.

I think this is a bit of an art in itself

I personally do the movement/LFO trix - with the clip envelopes instead, and rather just loop the endless sound in the Sampler.
Then tempo changes arent a problem.
