Synth1 holy crap!

Post by mholloway » Mon Feb 09, 2009 3:37 am

So I just discovered the wonder that is the free Synth1 + a zillion user soundbanks. !!! this goes so far beyond your average freeware, I'm amazed! I plugged the Live7 arpeggiator into it, clicked on a random mono synth, and the sound that blasted & rumbled out rivalled shit from some of my 200 dollar synths.......i am psyched psyched psyched to play more with this thing.

anybody know if this Ichiro Toda dude is still programming stuff? Seems like most of the Synth1 activity is years old now....

I love Synth1.

The other one I always recomend is MiniMogue VA for real speaker destroying, sub bass filter resonance and for the amazing "Wakeman's Journey" preset (very nostalgic)

Only draw back is the *huge* GUI. It captures the look of the original Mini Moog quite well though.

I think i remember a bug in Synth1:
The lfo speed setting is not saved right or something, you should check out of that has been fixed.

Synth1 was the first synth i really understood what parameter does what, so i really like that little synth very much :)

Synth1 is such a great synth - no crashes EVER, no pips or squeaks or CPU spikes, low CPU, great sounds. It's a must have.

imho it sounds like shit. the only free/digital synth besides operator i still use is sq8l (filtered and fx-ed). which does a nearly good sound, but you can´t automate parameters (?).

I dont really use many softsynths, but i really like synth1.I think it has a great sound. i've used it in loads of tracks. its only recently been replaced with operator as my favourite softsynth.

I used Synth1 for a long time. It is easy to program and the sound quality is okay but not comparable to "commercial" softsynths like predator and sylenth1.

Synth1 continues to surprise and delight me with its possibilities. I use it all the time for basic sounds from my own init patch, but I've gotten some really stunning results from layering two or three instances. Sylenth1 used to be my go-to synth, but now it's Synth1.

My only complain is how ugly and crammed it looks, but at this point I think I find it kind of charming.

As for SQ8L, it's essential for anyone who likes '80s sounds (Windows only).
