I had a property law professor who always said, "There are no free lunches!" His point being that nothing is for free, ever. You give up something to get something. You may not have to pay with money, but in the case of gmail/facebook, etc, you give up your privacy. There are no free lunches.

I heard facebook has zero musical merit. Is that true? I wouldn't know because anybody whenever somebody directs me to their facebook page it won't show me anything unless I sign up.

All depends on what you consider merit. While I don't pimp my music on Facebook, I've been contacted more than once because I'm a friend or the friend of a friend of someone else. YMMV...

Americans will do anything for a buck these days.
maybe it's a backup plan for when they go out of business, they still have stuff to sell.
In my life
Why do I smile
At people who I'd much rather kick in the eye?

My thing is there really isn't anybody from my past that I want to find or that I want to find me. It's happened a few times on myspace and once we've had a few "OMG Great to hear from you!" exchanges and a few personal tragedy updates and a comparison of how many divorces each has under their belt, we soon realize there's a reason we haven't kept in touch.
It should be interesting with generations of people who never lose contact with anybody ever.
