How Much Hard Drive Space To Run Win XP Smoothely?

what's the minimum that doesn't sacrafice performance?

i'm talking about windows xp sp2, does it really only need 256mb to run?
i mean hard drive space not ram

that's different. it's not just Live, but for your OS to run smooth you should have like 1Gb of free space open.

then there's all the content, samples etc.

I'm not actualy just talking about Live, I'm reformatting my drive and trying to get some extra space and I was wondering how small of an amount I could get away with on my os drive, i've got a 700gig drive but I need to conserve as much space as possible so i want to make the os partition as small as possible with out sacrificing performance

you cannot have those two things.

drives are cheap, go get a new one. use one for data, one for OS, it makes life a lot easier in the long run.

on my pc i usually do about a 30 gig partition for my system drive.
thats more then enough space for the os and apps

i also put my ableton library and other sample libraries on a a different drive.

i hardly have any apps so 20gigs should do
