80s synth suggestions!?
Hello!
I'm craving some new music at the moment, and as of late I've started to fall more and more in love with 80s mellow synth-based music.
However, my knowledge in this genre is somewhat limited and now I want to find some real great stuff, and I'm wondering if any of you can help me.
I'm already a fan of Vangelis and Jean Michel Jarre, but I want to find more stuff in that vein.
More specifically, I'd want something with melodies and real tunes.
I LOVE the sound of the intro to this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQ_a8JVmtyY (but I can't stand the rest of the track)
And I hope that there's an ocean of hidden mellow synth-tracks similar to the above intro, just waiting for me!
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks a million!

This isn't exactly 80s synth music, but you may like it. I've been in love with this band for a couple years now. Junior Boys is the name of group and they have another album coming out this March/April. I read a review about their upcoming album and it sounds like there are going to be a lot of rich, analog synth brass sounds and horns.

Waldorf PPG, perhaps?
I don't think you can get more 80's cheese than that.
No, just jokin' there are plenty more...
(edit) oops, you are looking for music not instruments, sorry i totally dislike the 80s, pure horror to me, the fashion / design and music supplied a very bad childhood for me... can't help.

If you want a good blast from the 80's then a Yamaha DX7 mark1 or 2 would do you good. I have the original mark 1 model and it is a very nice synth. Programming it is a mind warping experience but you can get lots of patch editors on the pc to upload patches to it.
You should be able to pick on eup fairly cheaply as their prices never inflated like the analog synths did.

Tangerine Dream, perhaps? Conrad Schnitzler?
Not specifically 80s, but then neither are Vangelis or Jarre.

i would go for a Oberheim Matrix 1000 expander in conjunction
with the PC editor.
damn complex poly analog beast for a decent used-price...my choice

it's not the synth, it's how you program it..
